Well I finally flew the stupid munk, I mean chip, ur chippy, um super chipmunk!
Took nine years as a hangar queen, four engine changes until its first maiden. I had a 2cycle nitro thunder tiger, wanted a four stroke, so I got a saito 72 that ended up in a mojo because I thought it would be too small for smoke, then a saito 100... smoke system wasn’t working out, so tried to fly it without and it back fired and I lost my spinner nut. I moved onto another project and it’s been collecting dust since. So I sold it to a buddy, he hacked it up to make it fly on an electric setup, first motor he put in threw a magnet on a pre pre flight ha ha. So it’s on its fifth engine. Crazy talk I say.
He flew it a few times then let me fly it the next week, take off to landing in the slushy snow. Since I never seen it fly yet, it felt like a maiden. Flew clean, and sport aerobatics were scale. I was smiling ear to ear. Felt good for me to close a chapter on that plane. I realized it’s been a while since I’ve had to utilize airspeed to do a four point roll in an arc. He said he puckered up watching me fly ha ha, old school style. This newer generation never got to experience airspeed management as a necessity, now every thing is “overpowered” meaning not scale. Made me a better pilot than most! One thing I am grateful for!
