Went flying today, it was hot and humid with nearly no wind which made for good flying and lots of sweating.

A new quality control problem cropped up on the Hangar 9 Extra. On my second flight the airplane started making an odd whirring noise when going fast and then dropping to an idle. I decided to land to check it out and when I came in to land it was idling way higher than when I took off. I went around and dropped the trim a few clicks and it was still idling fast, but landed fine. Tony said the engine seemed to be moving more than normal so I pulled the top of the cowl off to look.

I think this explains the noise, but even though the engine moves because the firewall flexes, I don't think it's moving enough to cause the idle issue, but maybe it is. I'll find out more when I can get it in the shop and pull it apart.

Nice catch. That could have been really bad.

You did not even gives an update on the programming. How difficult was it did you need to do a lot of reading did they have completely different thoughts and or words on how it works, we need to know details. Looking for a new radio need to know the details.
Anyway how did it go and how nervous were you. The big question is it up for sale or is it a keeper . Let’s us know how it went.
Still not sure yet. The programming is not so difficult. Just takes time to muddle through it. I have discovered one thing I absolutely "HATE" about the MZ32. So, on my old and trusty A9X, I am able to assign as many channels as I want to elevators, rudder and aileron. This makes it ultra easy to get fine tuning on each servo. Like say, my big Yak with 3 aileron servos per wing, 2 elevator per stab and 2,3 or 4 for rudder. And then all of them can be set with "expo" and dual, triple rates. And the expo and rates are carried over to every channel set up on that control. Problem is, the only receiver that comes close is the Optima 9. Not enough channels to do everything I want. That was the whole reason of making the jump to the Gruapner. So on my Big Yak, I have each side of the plane divided into "quadrants" so to speak. This way I am able to get "some" find tuning for each servo. Now to the MZ32. It is not possible, (even with the 16/32 channel receiver to accomplish this. It simply does not have the capability of assigning more channels to a function, i.e., 3 aileron, 2 elevator and more than 1 rudder channel. You would think a high dollar radio would have that in the programming. I talked to tech support about this and they say it is coming (hopefully in the next firmware update along with the ability to take a photo of your plane and display that photo of the plane you are flying when selected. The only way you can get more than one surface servo to be conjoined in the expo and rates menu is to set it up with what it has got. And that aint enough. I don't know. I am not terribly excited at this point. Maybe the firmware upgrade will fix that issue.

Yikes, that could have not been good. I seen a video once of an engine launching itself way a head of the plane it once was attached to. Needless to say, it did not end pretty. I would be that firewall is flexing just enough to cause your throttle arm to move just enough to give you and unstable idle. Re-epoxy that dude and put some wood dowels or screws through the top motor box plate directly into the firewall.

Absolutely gorgeous weather this morning so my son and I made a trip to the field. It was a Pilot RC 100cc kind of day. He finally figured out the issue with his DLE 120 not running up to par as it should be. Seems that headers that were on it were cut even. Not to offset the difference in the cylinder arrangement. We bought the engine and exhaust on his Aeroworks Ultimate. He then swapped it over to the Pilot 330. We had no idea the previous owner did not cut the headers to proper length. Anyway, that set such an imbalance in the 120 that it just would not run right. So he put on the stock exhaust and gained about 400 rpm and so smooth it is like glass now. Needless to say, it is just "almost"...."allll…..mooooost" able to keep up with my 106cs running the same Falcon CF 29x9 prop. We did a couple of side by side take offs...his 330 and my Edge. Did some old fashioned down home side by side "Nascar" style racing hot laps in the sky. We slammed those sticks and had lots of fun together. Ah but all good things come to an end it seems. Both of our timers went off pretty much at the same time. So...we did the side by side landing thing too. LOL. A bunch of guys showed up later in the morning. One of our friends, David brought his new Freewing A-10. Dang, the improvement on foam has really come a long way. And that bird looks as "real" as the full scale. Deep fast banks.... and awesome flybys. All around an awesome day of flying.

Even the little Rat Doggie got to go flying and catch a few rays.

Wow that would be a huge surprise to me, I would be just dumb founded. That is the main reason why we all need those channels to drive separate servos on one surface with full control on there own channel. That is a deal breaker for me hopefully they fix this stupidity real quick. Cannot belive that they did realize this that the radio needed this from day one.

That just should not happen I know they cut corners and skimp on glue but of all places not the motor mount. The only good thing to come of it is you caught it and nothing happened.

Well mike and I had a good day at the field from 9 in the morning till 4 pm . Well maybe not so good day for mike, I was cleaning up because it takes me a little longer to get everything packed back into the minivan. Mike said while you are doing that I am going for one more flight and then push it into the trailer. Anyway he starts the DLE 222 four cylinder up and it just did not sound right. Now the engine had been running all day perfectly with no problems and starting as easy as always. While standing the engine did not sound right, it sounded like one of the ignition modules was cutting out. Mike tried to increase the rpm a little and it was an instantaneous screech of metal and the motor stoped abruptly, we could not move the prop at all forward or backwards . It does not look good have no idea what happened but I think it is toast. Will strip it down and find out.

Yikes! Screeching metal and locked up engines are never a good thing. It makes my engine box issues seem pretty small.
