Well, since this "IS" the "I'm going flying" thread Astro, I "DID" go flying. Oh man...what a gorgeous day. I met up with my son and a friend of ours. Beautiful sunny day, little breeze early...not bad. A little more around 11 but then dropped off to nothing. My friend brought his 38% Great Planes Extra with a DLE 170 out. He just purchased it at a ridiculously stupid next to nothing price. I can't say, but hint is ok. WAY less than $1000.00. He has never flown GS before and asked if I would maiden it for him. Ummm, duh. "Gimme the sticks, I'll fly it". LOL.. The plane had a total of 5 flights on it when he purchased it. Man it flies good. Can't say I like the stock exhaust. My ears are still bleeding. hee hee. Here are a few pictures of our day at the field. (Can we all just go flying and never come home?)

Had a chance to purchase that 38% GP Extra before Tower discontinued it ...kinda wished I had now..I think it got as low as 700 bucks.

It's really not a bad flying plane. Seems very stable and quite gentle. Course, how can you go wrong with something this big right? Of course, I had to do some "hovering" with it to see if it compares to my 260. Close, but....hey 3Dub verses DLE? Hee hee

I have a DLE.. 170 in my Pilot Yak 37.5%...Bowman rings and WB-27 Walbro..stock mufflers ...I'm happy...Oh Xoar...32×10 that rips so loud it's heard 3 miles away..love that noise...

I was actually very impressed with the DLE 170. Very strong and quite snappy. Loud? Hoa yeah.... I am sure they heard me 30 miles away over at my previous db monitored field. But do I care? Mmm, not so much.

Well I DID too! (I just didn't take any glamour shots of myself at the field! LOL!)



All I have to show for it is a big smile on my face and a bit of sunburn! Sounds like you had just about the same weather in Idaho as we had here on the coast. Glad you had an enjoyable day at the field too!

Oh trust me, the smile on my face is still permanently pasted. I did get a little sun too, but hey...worth it right? Thanks by the way, and glad you enjoyed your flying as well. Got to take advantage of it. Our days are numbered for this year.

Nice flying. I find that when I fly with smoke its harder for me to fly smooth. Is it just me?
