I finished installing the cowl, put the plane together and CG'd her. It should be a bit nose heavy so I will probably be doing some adjustments. I also fired up the engine for the first time! Factory settings seem to be plenty rich with some pretty impressive low speed vibrations. So I will lean the low end out a little before I maiden. This plane is fantastically made. All the parts fit extremely well. It seems to be very sturdy.

The maiden will happen probably on Saturday. Maybe it will happen sooner if I can't wait for the family to come with me to see it.

I have ordered a pilot and the graphics from B and E. I thought this plane absolutely deserves all the bling I can give her. I will maiden it without them though ;)

The kids really like it as well.

Well been flying the profile plane for a while and have decided to make some changes. The plane had 3oz of lead on the tail that has been a thorn in my side from day one. So I have decided to extend the fuselage enough so that I can remove the 3oz of lead out of the tail. After doing some math and checking it seems that if I add 4 inches to the fuselage I will be able to remove the 3oz of lead. We will see how it works out and if the flying characteristics changes.

Well, I pulled out the sweet running DA 100 on the Hangar 9 35% Extra 260 and slapped the ballistic DA 120 in it. Wasn't bad change out at all. Had to add 1/4 inch spacers to the back of the motor mounts as the DA 120 is 1/4 shorter. I did move my batteries up closer to the front. Canisters did fit with my headers although my new headers were a bit longer by at least an inch.

I was amazed at how much lighter the DA 120 is than the DA 100. I weighed both of them with the headers and the DA 120 was 5 lb 7.5 oz and the DA 100 was 6 lbs 7 oz. With the plane sitting in my work stand and once I moved the batteries up close to the front it seemed to be balanced almost perfect as I had it with the DA 100. I made a tray in the rear of the canopy area and had my batteries as far back as I really could get them to balance with the DA 100.

The batteries are right at 13.4 oz or so that is only around 3ish oz light on the front which should be fine. I still need to baffle the engine but for now I will watch it close. I only plan to get it adjusted and a light flight or two. I will probably baffle it in a couple weeks if I like the way it performs.

That DA 120 might rip that hangar 9 all to pieces. After all, it isn't an EF 104. :D

I got this 08 Tahoe recently and I did not like raised rear seats to much. I got a piece of plywood and some black carpet and made this. With rear bucket seats down it now can be a bit larger flat surface. And gives some storage underneath. Or with seats in up position.

Got a bit more dismantling done on the Extra. After thorough inspection I have decided to order another fuse and canopy for it. Will get the DL50 rebuilt first then get the parts for the plane. I went ahead a got a new crankshaft for the 50 as well. So when all is done it will be "like" having a brand new engine and airframe to maiden :) but without all the expense . :cautious:....:concern:....o_O

I still cant believe the prop, spinner, engine and exhaust, cowl and LG are with out so much as a scratch. NEVER has this happened to me before .
