No doubt they are some extremely powerful engines.

The only thing I have seen is they are a bit pricey in comparison to other engines and the running backwards thing is unreal. It is almost an expected behavior. I know a guy and watched him over a year dealing with one of those suckers and it started more times backwards than it did forwards. He tried about everything a person could try to keep it from doing that.

I think he finally gave up on it and got something else, but not sure as I have not seen him for a while. The only thing I know that works is always starting it with an electric starter so it is starting in the right direction.

If your reffering to Chris I think his 33 finally started running well. Now both of his gt22's have run great from the start. Seems it was the 33 that most complained of wanting to start backwards.

Yep that was the one. I am glad it is working good now because he sure had a time with it. One thing though, that engine would "tote the mail" as they say! I had a little 55ax nitro burner with a macs pipe and man oh man was that a screaming beast!

OS makes a quality engine and they last well. Don't know yet on the gassers as not that many people have them around my circle of flyers. I know Chris has his and Chuck has an OS33 on the EF he has, but he electric starts so he does not have any problems with it. He was out flying the OS33 with us yesterday.

I have both the 22 and the 33 and yes you are correct they both have a tendency to run backwards. But after a good gallons through the engine they loosen up it gets better. But one thing you have to start the engine like you mean it. Do not get wrong but start it like a man. I have run both my engines this hole summer and NOT once did they start backwards. And yes I really like them and would buy another in a second.

Mmmm…… Not yet. Key word, "yet".

Well there you go. I think we should do a double build/assembly thread. Get yours ordered. I bet they won't last long.
Like I said I am thinking about it. They are not available right now I belive. It would be nice if somebody did a mini test first. But yes I am still interested and will be calling the LHS for a price.

I hand start but several club members use an electric starter on smaller gas engines. I would think using a starter would be automatic if starting backwards was a recurring problem.

That OS 55ax is right up there with the YS60 short stroke, OPS speed, etc. That thing howls on a pipe.

You are just bad. If it says mustang or 3W you have to have it. Still a little hesitant the small size concerns me small war birds really get over weight real fast and to say the least difficult to fly.
Did you just get the plane or did you get the retractable gear for mains and the tail wheel.
