Kelly, I am sorry I have not had time to respond to some of your recent posts. More irons in the fire than I know what to do with it seems. I did want to say however, thank you for your FB post. It is so good to see you getting involved again. I know that life happens sometimes. But I have also realized that when we remove certain components of what makes us "who" we are from our every day lives, a little bit of who we are inside dies. I for one have missed seeing your posts and staying updated on what's happening with you. Never allow life to take away from you those things that put a smile on your face.

Thank you for the advice and help. Very good info to have my ignition on the 3W is still ok but sure is nice to know that there is replacement that even works better and is a lot less money that does not happen often

Some say that the DA ignition is better than the 3W. I'm going to say this......
Greater care must be taken and excercised when mounting any 3W ignition. If you mount the ingitions with the mounting plate down, you MUST have a minimum of 1/8" for airflow. That is basically where the spark is created. Me personally, I mount them upside down, on dowel rods, giving full airflow to that area of the ignition module. If not, then you "could" develop an ignition issue 30-70 flights in.... Case in point. Happened to me and my Dalton 300 with a 157 CS/TS. Both modules mounted the way I described (upside down on dowel rods). Got a miss and poor running conditions. I decided to dam off the ignition modules, from the heat of the engine. And wouldnt ya know, the minute I did that, my issues went away....... Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmm..

The RC Excl is plug and play. To an extent. No soldering required. It does however require the purchase of the hall sensor. $6.99 from my favorite ebay supplier. It comes as a "DYI" kit. Sensor, mounting bracket and screws. The bracket is a perfect fit for the dub motors. So basically bolt and go. 69.99 for the ignition plus 6.99 for the sensor is just shy of 77 bucks. For extra rpm, smooth as silk running and Ferrari fast throttle response, I'll take it any day.

I dont see how an ignition swap gives extra RPM. An engine with any given prop, can only spin so fast. Advancing the timing of the pick up will create a little extra power, yes. But has been known in the state of California to cause cancer.

I'm not going after each and every last RPM out of my engines. I'm poor, and gotta take care of my stuff, gotta make it all last for the long haul. I cant give each of them the individualized time I need with them. So, I have to know that when I ready for that specific hobby, it is ready for me.

Well here's the deal Chris, I was not looking for anything on the ignition swap "EXCEPT" dependability and reliability. I felt the 157cs ran just fine. When the ignition module was not failing! As for mounting The "dub" ignition...if you remember, we discussed this in detail and followed your recommendations to a letter. Even tried mounting them on a TDRC vibra mount. They still failed. That DA has a better ignition is a little disputable. As I've heard DA has also had issues. Milton gets calls all the time from DA owners with ignition problems. The fact that they, as well as 3w owners are going to the RC Excl says something solid to me. The fact the I gained rpm, performance and glass smooth transition was an added bonus. The added rpm is just like a properly timed engine. Full efficiency in combustion of the fuel. I too take care of my stuff and can't afford having anything go amiss with my engines. I don't look for "every" single rpm. That is just stupid to me. About like putting a 30x13 on a 150cc engine. A lot of DA owners do this to get that peak spool up and rpm. If an engine has the grunt, (insert the king-3w here) to do it without hurting it, then there should be no harm in doing so. Lugging a high out put engine is just as detrimental to its longevity as over revving it. I ran the 32x10 Falcon on my 157cs with the original ignition. 62 and some change. With the RC Excl, an honest 6600 plus. And "could" get more if I went to a 30x13 like the DA guys. But then again, prop effeciency is compromised and the gain really isn't worth it. Could I spin a 32x11 on the 157cs? Ha! With ease!! But again, why push something that works? You're just asking for trouble. Lots of people have their own opinions. I stand on fact and proof of numbers. BE 124? Been there. RCGF 120? That one too. Really??? And DLA 128? What a joke that one was!!! When you find "fact" and truth behind advertised claims...that is where you stay!

Not to worry.....I could not get a response on FB with my "Dancing with a RockStar" vid either so I 86'ed it (Well three of my closest friends liked it) I'm just a "non viral" kind a guy . My involvement is going to be "limited" because I do need to take better care of myself and health care cost way more than toy planes (Even with good insurance). Besides, as you can see in the pictures, remodeling materials are expensive these days as well. But I am feeling better and would love to get some stick time instead of sick time for a change. Also.....I really enjoy seeing others do well and live their hobby dreams. I'm not a jealous person that way.
And for now a couple of small electrics and a moderate sized gasser is just the thing with all the crap going on at the flying sites around here where I'm at.

1/4-20 x 3.5 inch hex bolts (Threaded all the way) , 1/4-20 x 7/8 inch "spacer nut", 5/8ths x 3/16 inch thick round aluminum washers for 1/4-20 bolts, 1/4-20 lock nuts w/ washers.

2 spacer nuts and 2 washers per bolt put the engine drive hub where it needed to be. Retained by lock nuts and washers behind motor plate. Bolts get "locked" to engine by the spacer nuts. Home Depot had it all.

None other than Aircraft International. Looks like I have a plan mapped out for me tonight. That big ole Yak better appreciate me. (And the money I spend on her. )
