Pretty much got everything needing some primer and paint ready for the task. I cheap'd out and re-used the wood and covering from the old landing gear for the old landing gear . Hey....At least the bungee covers will be new .

I am trying but I have never owned a 50 cc profile so I do not have much to go on but do my best and see how it goes. I got bitten by the 3D bug about 1 and 1/2 seasons ago so right now my total focus is on 3D and trying to build a plane that will help me learn how to do it and be petrified to bang it up a little.

Been touching up my AJ Laser the past week or so (on and off), getting it ready for an airshow at the end of this month. Worked on the cowl the other night, the original air exit I cut open was not going to be sufficient as the warmer months drew near.

Original hole.

Proposed changes.

Cleaned up.

Creative foam lip glued in place to help evacuate the hot air.

Opened up the rear can tunnel exit so I could do a small repair to the rear wall, and to let even more air out.

Last night I broke out the heat gun and blew all the wrinkles off of the covering. Just need to repair a wheel pant and it'll be ready to rock and roll next weekend.

Well now I have gone and done it. I have gone over to the dark side. Wow, and I said I would never fly foam or electrics. I just killed that bird with a one-two punch. Whamo. But what the heck. My DW foamy was kind of beat up when I bought it and it has flown nice. But time for an upgrade. Enter stage left...TWISTED HOBBIES Edge 540 V3.
This should be fun to put together. And hopefully even more fun than the DW 330. Why does no one make a really nice foamy 330?

Oh well, on with the Edge.

If you paint the motor red you won’t feel so bad. Where would you fly it do you have axis to an indoor arena. It should be fun to try.

Just could not resist checking the paint match. Still have some priming and sanding to do on the cowl. Used Rust-oleum 2X spray paint (Golden Sunset yellow and Apple Red). Very close match with both colors .

You will love it! It might be a foamie, but it flys like a nice balsa bird. A nice balsa bird that you can beat the snot out of.

Well boys started something and just trying to build a 50 cc profile. This is what happens when all your projects are done and you are sitting in your work shop looking around. Well this started about a year ago. Bought a 50cc ARF started to look at it and did some minor assembly, it just looked to big and heavy. So I put everything together and put it on a scale and that was with all the little stuff and came in at 17 lbs 10 oz. then measured up the wing and came to 1345 square inches. So from there did some number crunching and WCL came out 9.8 so with few bits and pieces it would pass a WCL OF 10. So at that point I just put it away and never looked at it again. But this week I pulled out the wings and thought that I would see if I can draw up profile plane around the wings. My goal is to have WCL of 8.5 and weight of less than 14 lbs sitting on the runway ready to take off. The engine will be a DA50 with a stock muffler.
This what I have up to now. Any help and assistance will be greatly appreciate. By the way the wing is 10 % aerofoil and max thickness is at 30%.

Looks good so far bud. First I have a request and I will PM you my email address but I would love to have a file of just where you have the engine drawn up. Would be a big help when I finally get my 55cc edge profile from paper and into CAD. Now my little bit of input on what you have drawn so far. First are you going to do a wood frame fuse or do like I did mine and do foam core sheeted with balsa? I believe it can be built lighter doing wood framing but the sheeted foam makes it really rigid and wont have any tail twist when rolling (the 55cc profiles that WWRC sells have horrible tail twist, never broken in flight but they twist bad). Next the placement of the wing looks perfect. I would suggest bring the stab down into the same plane as the wing as well as lowering the engine down so the center of your thrust line is right on the center of the wing and stab. Also I think it would look better moving the engine back so the prop is only a 1/4" or so in front of the nose of the fuse. Also I recommend incorporating a carbon fiber or fiberglass tube into the fuse to make it stronger as well.
