Been messing with the Multiplex Mentor a lot lately. My girlfriend is wanting to fly bigger airplanes now and the Mentor is a perfect step up from her UMX Timber. So I put a SAFE receiver in the Mentor :oblong: Backdoor programming of the AR636A receiver has been a fun learning experience and I think I got the airplane just about dialed in, I hope

I consider myself a reasonable tech savvy guy for my age, but sometimes the programing of some devices can really suck because the instructions, if there are any, are clear as mud. The first Beast X helicopter setup I did had me scratching my head for quite awhile. It's easy now, but the first time I got about halfway through no problem then it went south because one button push was not in that part of the instructions. It was something that was in the beginning of the manual that you were supposed to read and remember.:ugh!:

Problem is, this particular receiver came out of a different airplane and had an odd trim angle set into it of -16º. Since this was not an off the shelf receiver, the trim angle was not adjustable through the programmer. I had to spend a few hours inside of a text editor in order to modify the settings through the backdoor means in order to reset it back to level. Also, there was a throttle->elevator mix enabled that would give down elevator at wide open. Thankfully I as able to disable that mix entirely. Again, all through the text editor :oblong: There wen't any instructions, just a group of guys on another forum that have been playing with the backdoor functionality.

Talking about technical programming stuff just read through the Arora8 info in the plane manual and did not take long I was lost. It will get better I hope when I read the Arora8 manual and have it all in front of me but right now i am like a deer in the headlights.
The one thing that has me completely confused is that they say do not trim the radio leave it at zero all the trimming is done in the Arora8. How is that possible if you stand in front of the plane with radio on and you need trim a certain surface, how do get to Arora8 to make the trim.

They are likely referring to subtrim. As far as in flight trims, it probably has a method you are supposed to do in order for it to recognize the trims next time around.

Finished the programming last night. One more engine tuning session tonight. Time to reinstall the cowling, charge batteries and watch the weather!

That does make sense because subtrim does cause travel and end point difficulties. Thanks.
