I've been tempted to take my GP61 and smash it into a million pieces when it wont start. Then it starts, and the power makes up for it all. It's a love hate relationship.;)

A known GP small issue, they chrome the prop hub for some reason and then put chrome prop bolts in it that galled in the hub. They may have done away with that by now. I had planned on putting a 123 in my Hangar 9 Extra when I got it, but stumbled on a great deal on a new DA120 from a club member.

I have not used a GP yet, but maybe one day. One thing I have been fortunate with is my DAs have all started without issue, even after sitting for a long time. I am amazed at how the DA time and time again is steadfast in cranking.

I am not ignorant that something couldn't fail, but nothing ever has on my DAs. Other engines I have had some issues. I had one DA 120 that has set for most of the summer. Got it out last week, choked, propped a few times, fired, choke off, and vrooom took to the skies just like always.

My primary engine for years was my 3W-106, choked, it will pop in 4 or 5 flips, then 3-5 flips and it's running. Not always but generally. My new DA120 seems to need 10 or more flips under choke and a similar number to start. Don't know why but it appears the DA needs more. Either engine though is very reliable.

I think so much depends on how rich the low speed needle valve is set. But what setting it takes to start easy, and what it takes to run well, or not always the same setting. I can make my GP start easy by richening the low end, but then the transition sucks. So, I set it to where the transition is as rich as I can tolerate, and live with the amount of flips it takes to start it.

Is your new DA 120 the one with the new style carb?

Looks good, well have you done the maiden flight with it. Me bad did not look at your location snow is not a problem for you. Have fun and enjoy the plane.

I maidened her on Monday evening. There were a ridiculous amount of black birds flying around, but they didn't cause any issues luckily. This is probably the most straight flying plane I have built! No trim required at all. All the electronics in that plane came from Hobby King and came out to 105 bucks (4 servos, ESC, Motor, Receiver, Extensions, shipping). So this airplane came to be with a VERY limited budget.
