No shop time yesterday though my wife may call it shop time as I slowly keep clearing this area and if we stay will eventually build a shop there. Needless though the trees there gotta go as two of them are sweet gum trees. The black cherry in the front is just in the way of the gums coming down
Black cherry came down easy peasy
first half of the sweet gum same thing, dropped right where I wanted it.
Second half not so much. Now all of these I have had a rope tied too using my truck to keep tension to go the way I want them to go. This one started going the right way as it should have landed on top of the other one. But then it started to twist and went the wrong way. Let’s just say I stepped it off and the tree was 56’ tall and my power pole is 58’ from the base of the tree. Got lucky there
this is a forth sweet gum on the other side of the yard. Again they just gotta go as gumballs are hard on mower blades
Now of all the trees I have 9 logs now that are roughly 9’ long and 8-10” in diameter that will go to the saw mill to be turned into lumber to use in my shop. The rest got cut up for firewood. Hauled all the sweetgum to my wife’s uncle for him go use. All the black cherry I’m keeping for myself to dry out and actually use in my smoker.
This is one of the pieces of black cherry that I just cut down the middle to see what I had. Can’t wait to have it all milled up and be able to make something pretty with it. Haven’t cut any of the gum up but just looking at the end grain I think it’s just going to be a nice pretty white wood all the way through.
