Thinking or just doodling with some thoughts. Drilled the Havoc in a week ago and after checking everything out, and reconstruction of everything it was either pilot error or elevator servo. Believe it to be elevator servo because the tail was in tact but the elevator was not working. Not good lost the plane on the first flight just because of a bad servo, would have been more acceptable if it was just me.
Anyway thinking of drawing up a Delta wing aircraft and seeing if I can incorporate the ducted fan from the Havoc. Made a rib layout and thinking on how to incorporate the fan. Difficult to figure out how much thrust this 80 mm fan can produce, to size the wing properly.

More clamp porn...Should be the last one for a while.

Triangle stock glued around the perimeter of the firewall.
Next up is fuel-proofing, then re-mounting the engine - finally!!

Looking inside I'm surprised more of the fuselage formers didn't break when the firewall cracked? I see a lot of air when I look at the first photo above inside the fuselage.

So am I! Can’t really determine exactly what happened, or how the airplane impacted. It was slowing down by that time, so much so that all three wheels were on the ground. Other than mud on one blade of the prop and a bump on the cowling, I couldn’t find any other signs of contact.

The firewall was made of three plies and one of them had delaminated and cracked between the two lower bolt holes, allowing the engine to move. All of the joints between the fuselage and firewall were solid, so it was a bit of a chore to drill and saw out.

I also think the engine bolts had been tightened over the years and compressed the plies, so that didn’t help.

Most of the damage in the photo below was from the removal process.
I also found a shot prior to the firewall install, which shows a good view of the structure.

Good news is that now it’s better than new.

Super Otter wing has finally been covered. Wing tips were.... fun?.... challenging might be the better word. Quite a bit of trim involved in attempt to make the plane look scale.

So here are my glamour shots:

Still PLENTY of work to do. But all the big pieces are there. Really looking good if you as me, no master builder here but looks how I want it to.

Nice job covering can be trying at times but that came out nicely. The lettering makes a big difference.

Decided to replace the Ultracote on the firewall with thin aluminum for accessibility.
Bolts holding the cowling brackets will be used to hold it in place. At least that’s the theory at the moment.

Anyone have a recommendation of material for pull-pull rudder cables?
Mine seem to have stretched during the last flight and I have no idea how old they may be, so time to be replaced.

I use 80# Berkley steel nylon coated fishing leader (you can also get 120#) and use the associated crimps they make.
