Timber 110" Twin Build

I tackled replacing the ridiculous H9 gear today. I was limited in gear width by the fuselage slot so I went with 1/4" 6061-T6 and narrowed the profile towards the axles. If it is over sprung once I get the plane to flight weight I'll belt sand a taper in the trailing edge of the gear. The gear legs are extended and swept forward for better handling in soft sand. On to the tail wheel fork!

Thanks WMcNabb! On to the tail wheel setup... I decided to machine a one piece spring with an integrated pivot mount. Again, the spring is overly stiff with the intention of removing material with the belt sander once the plane is at flight weight. These models seem so light out of the box but get heavier quick as components add on. I'd rather start on the stiff side. The fork is a two piece unit out of HDPE. The halves screw together rather than machining it from two sides. If I go ahead and use this fork I'll remove quite a bit of material on the belt sander to get it a lot less chunky. I have an idea to make a fork out of one piece of aluminum with multiple bends.

Thanks for the kind feedback guys, much appreciated. I've decided to the make the 4th of July weekend a shop-cation. This time of year is busy in AK as an equipment operator. I've loved getting out in the shop! I doesn't get much better than the combination of RC and design/fabrication.

What kind of surfaces do you fly off of Snoopy1? Does the factory gear bend with regular use from a light drop in?

After some late night CAD work I came up with this updated aluminum tail fork. A single flat piece of aluminum with 4 bends forms the fork/pivot/control arm all in one. Beginning fabrication of the twin motor mount. (screws in motor mount are temporary and will be replaced with small bolts)

Yes the landing gear is pathetic every 2 or three landings the gear spreads. Continuously bending them back into shape.
Yes ordered a set of 61/4 airtop wheels. Hopefully they will help but know better. Need to make a change.
