Two Throttle Linkage Questions??

I've not used either of these methods, I guess I'm just OLD school, or maybe just OLD.

Anyway there are a couple of guys at the field that -->

1) Use standard 2/56 type nyrod on gas throttle linkages.

And it works by the way, and has been working quite awhile.

2) Use metal throttle arm to metal clevis on this nyrod set up.

Justification was that as long as the metal to metal is not a solid rod, it's OK.

Point here is that he terminates the metal to metal connection where the threaded rod

goes in to the nyrod.

Waddyall think?

Thanks

I don't have a problem with method #1 but #2 is another story.

Metal on metal vibration reguardless of any rod length can create an rf noise. It may not be that big of a deal with 2.4 but still.

Using clevises at the carb throttle arm on a gas engine is simply bad practice. The vibrations up there are intense and I won't trust a press fitted clevis pin to last any real length of time. I always use a bolt on ball link at the throttle arm. A clevis is fine at the throttle servo horn.

Do you know of any empirical evidence or documentation?

I'd like to go back with something other than my unsubstantiated opinion.

Take care

Empirical evidence? Well I don't know about that but any time you have two metals that can vibrate together they can create many unknown frequencies. I don't want to find out which one is being generated in and around my plane so I just don't do it. You can Google RF Noise and find out all you want about RFI.

My method for throttle linkage is neither right nor wrong but the way I do it based on years of experience.

Heck I have even heard of people using Dubro EZ connectors for throttle linkages. Not on any of my planes, but that doesn't make them right or wrong but certainly risky in my book.
