I have no idea. Got that pic from a friend (Jim) that owned Mt. Pleasant/ Scottdale Airport. Pic is probably from late 50's or early 60's. Unfortunately Jim is no longer with us. According to Jim back in the day Cubs were like silly putty. Very moldable, and not valued as they are today. Folks would mod them. From twin engines (Jim said the second engine just took you to the crash site.), tri gear, made them low wings which according to Jim killed many pilots because the original Cub horizontal stab was too small for a low wing position, twin fuses, etc.

Here is another pic of a twin engine Citabria. According to Jim was the worst twin ever built. The drag was so great if you lost an engine, even with one still turning, look straight down and that is where you were going to land. Oh and notice the Rambler in the background. I think it's a Rambler.

Yea that's a Rambler for sure.
Time to make the nosewheel bearing block. Started with a 2" x2" x 2" piece of material, for reference it weighted 212 grams before starting. Chucked up in the four jaw off center, drilled 1/2" through hole, then bored to .632", 002" clearance for the nosewheel tube. Next clamped in the vise at the measures angle from the plans and milled until flat.

Next flipped block over and milled the flanges for mounting screws. These are parallel to the milled side of the block. Finally with the mill set at a fixed height, rotated and clamped the block about the bored hole and put a crude radius on it. As you can see the little tubes are removed, will clean the area when the thrust collar is install on the nosewheel. That is after the block is mounted. Final weight of the block is 75 grams.

Silver brazed a thrust collar on and cleaned the remaining weld off. Block is installed and now I can frame it the stringers around the opening. The strut sticking out below the block in the photo will be shorten once the control mechanism is finalized. The original Cherokee had a rudder servo in the tail on a rotary drive system and a separate servo on the nosewheel. I'm thinking this one may get a pull-pull linkage.

Was out yesterday morning flying with my friend Kenny, he was up in the air when this Sport Cub flew over low and waved this wing, Kenny landed his 35% Yak and the Sport Cub proceeded to land on the field, he was followed by Cub. Both pilots were flying cross county to North Carolina and stopped off to use our Port-O-John. Was nice watching them land and takeoff. Landing and takeoff roll outs were rather short.

Work continues on the fuselage stringers. The bottom and right side are completed, started working on the left side this morning. The formers have laser etched marks for the location on the stringers, of course they are mostly wrong so each stinger needs laid out individually with a square and long straight edge.

Ordered a 3/4" OD carbon fiber tube for the stabalator. Was planning to use the old carbon tube from the original Cherokee but decided to order a tube with more wall thickness after doing some beam calculations, unfortunately I had to buy a 72" long tube to get the bigger wall thickness.

Been looking for a 3/4 inch carbon tube for a while hard to get. Where did you get yours form and did it come with a sleeve
When you do your calculations for the tube is it for maximum allowable deflection or tube failure, also what number do you use for sigma Y in the calculations.
