3D When is a plane used up?

Spats

It's got a few more flights left. I'll have to get my nerve up.. Hinging doesn't bother me, it's the covering.

Get some balsa sticks and make a small square. Cover it and you will learn most all you need to know. If you screw something up just cut another. Yes the first one you might need to cut a couple extra pieces but its a small plane so not to much covering. Heck I still have to re-cut pieces all the time.

Once you cover a few things it's not to bad. I have actually gotten pretty good at it (in my opinion at least) and now it's one of my favorite parts of a build.
I will soon be stripping down a 33% hangar 9 edge540 and doing a complete recover on it. A thread will be started when it happens.

Sort of, depending on the size of the plane, for small wings and ultracote this works but for planes of any size you want to pull and tack the corners, then pull lightly and tack the middle of the long edges, then split that into quarters to pull and tack some more. THEN seal the two long edges and the root edge. Work your way out to the tip with an iron as much as possible and use a heat gun only if you are sure how to use it. Stop using a heat gun before you get "to" the end, maybe 8" or so, and finish the rest out with an iron.

Otherwise basic rule is always cover from the bottom up and from the back to the front.

It's just my opinion, but if you love it or it's your all around go to, it's never used up. Just strip, clean, repair, recover...fly. I will be looking forward to your findings, deliberations and ultimate decision. I feel another restore comin' on.:way_to_go:

Good plan with the covering video Randy. I wanted to this go around with the Yak, just not enough time.
