Assembling the LG. You'll need all of these fasteners from the LG bag.
30516672_10217006384698745_7236635713230340096_o.jpg

Assemble LG bolts in this order: bolt, lock washer, flat washer - flat washer, lock washer, nut.

BLUE loctite goes on everything! Especially with the ZDZ180 on the nose.
30582358_10217006391978927_5252195358863261696_o.jpg

LG bolted up. Covering has wrinkles, I won't touch any of it up for a few days because the wood needs to acclimate to its new environment first. A lot of the wrinkled covering on the bottom will be cut away anyways.

Tailwheel uses 4 bolts, there were 4, 4-40 bolts in these holes when the fuselage came out of the box.

2 things will ensure the tailwheel stays put: 1. Blue loctite, and 2. Bonded washers. I use bonded washers on just about every bolt.

Blurry photo of the tailwheel installed. All 4 bolts are loctited and have bonded washers.

Installing the rudder is easy peasy, just slide the rudder rod in place (it's installed in the rudder out of the box) and you're done. Will do horns later.

Wheel cuffs have these nice plywood inserts to reinforce them.
30571718_10217006407019303_7974825864246329344_o.jpg

Slide them up the leg, butted up against the fuse.
30530449_10217006407459314_7118730979690151936_o.jpg

The LG already has the holes for these pre-drilled. You may need to make some slight adjustments.
30656868_10217006407899325_8001665432706613248_o.jpg

This was the point where I realized I ran out of bonded washers, will need to order more before bolting any of the cuffs/pants in place. At least I can mock them all up for photos.

A little trick I lifted from a buddy, roughen up the axle end....
30581653_10217006411419413_3821330530369011712_o.jpg

Apply goop, foam tac, or some other goopy type of silicone based glue. Once this dries, the collet will never come off.

That's all for now. Here's a poseur shot:

Tucked away for the night. Will have to figure out how I'm going to fit the 105 in here tomorrow.

For this airplane I will be using the Hitec HSB-9381TH servos. These servos are the most powerful servos that you can buy in a standard size case due to their no-fade power output- unlike coreless digitals, whos torque can easily drop 200-300 oz/in when the load is applied to them.

The only problem is these are the only 2 in stock and they're already going to another customer :oblong: More are coming early May :cryin::(

For throttle servos, I always use the HS-5565MH. I have had awesome luck using this servo as it's super quick, HV compatible, and its coreless motor is extremely accurate and smooth. Metal geartrain too, in all of the throttle applications I've used this in none of them have given any kind of slop. Since the ZDZ-180 carb is inside of the motor box, I use the HS-5565MH on the choke as well.

For extensions, I prefer to use TailDragger RC for all of my extension needs. The wing harnesses use a MPX 10 pin connector that makes plugging your wings in super easy and quick, and the connectors fit extremely snug so there's no chance of it coming out in flight.

What is the PAD used for or how does it work?

The PAD is a device used to soak up the regenerative current function of the brushless servos. Some switches or receivers won't let the current pass back into the battery so it bounces back to the servo- the backflow of current is 100% harmless and causes no harm to your equipment, but you will notice the servos may jump around center for a split second when they return from deflection. The PAD solves this as it is essentially a small capacitor that soaks up the energy and dissipates it.

What exact bonded washers do you buy? I would like to stock up on them! Thanks.

RTL Fasteners is where I buy everything from:
