I really hope that's the case, but my faith in the FAA took a dive when I had to fill out a form that said "Register My Drone" I don't own a drone, don't want a drone, and don't want to be lumped in with them.
Yup, me too. The only plane I registered was the Sukhoi way back when all this ridiculous pushing and shoving match began. To go through all this again is simply ludicrous. Thanks "drone" drivers. You are a special bunch aren't ya?

In my opinion, the biggest mistake made was the fact that there was never any defining of much of any of this when it first popped up as an issue. It is like writing a law about "trucks" that applies to all trucks when it should only apply to a certain type of truck such as a big rig. There was more ignorance in this drone thing than one can wrap their head around and now it is compounded big time.

You certainly hit the nail on the head there. I have been saying that ever since all of this rigmarole started. It's plain stupidity in my opinion.

I was just talking with a buddy today about this. we came to the conclusion that it actually makes sense to commercial drone operators and anyone flying FPV to have to register since but for anyone else flying line of sight its just the question of why and still all boils down to the FAA and the government don't realize that the people that are causing the problems and flying in places they shouldn't be like near an airport aren't members of the AMA to begin with, so basically they will have the same problems as the ones of us who will register our stuff where never causing problems to begin with.

^^ Exactly^^

I brought this up in a recent Drone EXPO our local FAA FSDO put on and the local sUAS operators also chimed in and said there was 3-4 pallets of drones recently sold at our Costco and yet there are only a handful of part 107 operators out in our community... So why is it model aircraft users are getting the blanket regulation when it is actually the LACK OF EDUCATION.
IF our local FSDO's required a information brochure to be sold with ANY drone on where and how it's acceptable to fly your new sUAS in your district there would be less confusion. But that's assuming people can read AND follow directions LOL

As I understand it Amazon was pushing for this, and they certainly have the money to buy any politician they want.

Hadn't heard that but it seems weird that they would push for something that I would think would make it harder for them to do their drone delivery.
It is actually quite simple to understand. Amazon pushed for this because if "Everyone" is registered and restricted, or monitored for the lack of a better term, then it will make it easier for them to tie up the airspace that we all used to enjoy, purely for their monetary and capital gain. Yup...got some deep pockets? The world is yours fellas.

Well I flew several times this weekend, but I'm not supposed to say what I flew. All I can tell you is that it was small, fast, and foam :oblong::D:D I think you guys will like this one, and as soon as I'm allowed to say, I'll tell you guys all about it. But until then, here is a teaser picture
