Wanted Dave Patrick Ultimate 120 Plans

rcbobp

70cc twin V2
I had the DP Ultimate. It was an ARF. Flew great. I had a Webra 120 on the front. Sadly, DP seemed to have disappeared, as he stopped replying to emails or contacts through his website, and left no forwarding information.

If you are looking for a good set of drawings I would recommend you look for a set of Ohio Rc Ultimate drawings. I forget the gentleman’s name but he and his some were some of the first to build bigger planes and a really good product and they flew well I had one of there Ultimate planes it was a kit.
Have no idea what happened to him or his son.

Thanks Snoop1.

I believe that was Bob Ankney.

I've done some poking around around and I believe that all of the Ohio RC rights were ultimately acquired by Precision Cut Kits which is now owned by Solo Props.

I did find what appear to be both the smaller and larger size Ohio RC kits.

I sent Solo Props an email a while ago to see if that indeed is the case.

Once I confirm, I'll post back here.

I took a set of Dave Patrick's Bucker Jungmann plans from the Goldberg kit and enlarged them from 62" to 86". I had a kit so I was able to take the critical fuselage shaping formers and trace them to enlarge them. Cut new larger formers to keep the fuselage shape. Instead of using lite ply for fuselage sides like the original kits, I made a 3/8" balsa truss sheeted with 1/8" balsa (like a Carden kit). The key was getting a design that worked with available cowls. I started out sizing it to fit a Dave Patrick Extra 300 cowl (shooting for the same width) but that cowl was not right in the vertical dimension. Ended up with a 33% Hangar 9 Edge 540 that just happened to fit perfect. Totally by chance!! Wing ribs were cut by hand which is not at all difficult to do with the right tools/methods.

I do have a Goldberg Ultimate kit with plans and might be interested in doing something similar to the Bucker. I'm generally flying bigger planes these days so I'm not too keen on the idea of going from 54" to 60". now something like 54" to 75-80" might be worth further consideration. If you're not interested in that, I might be talked into just doing a fellow modeler a favor and tracing the critical pieces and sending you the paper to enlarge.

Thanks for looking,

Don

Here's my Bucker: 86"wingspan at 23lbs. with a DA-60 for power

Don,

Always loved flying the Goldberg Bucker. I still have one that is need of recovering at some point. Looks like you did a great job on that enlarged Goldberg Bucker!

If you ever find the time to trace the key pieces I would be appreciative and pay for postage, etc.

Thanks,

Rob

Make sure you ask if it has been updated the plane . Building the original Ultimate was a lot of work and not the easiest. But I loved the plane and it flew great.

Good call Snoopy1.

I've been doing a fair amount of research and found out that Apparently bob Ankney had done quite a number of updates to the plans so I did ask in my email if the plans / kit they are selling reflect all of hte upgrades. I understand that updates were made to make the kit "easier to build" but not sure of all of the other updates. Are you aware of some of the others so I know when I hear back from them?

Thanks,

Rob

I just looked up the info you just told me. The site is not very informative. But I have to say it does have my interest. Would love to build 77inch Ultimate.. no info on the plane, pictures or even engine size.

You are correct. When I emailed them I also asked for any other information, pictures, etc..

I've good things about the Ohio RC Ultimate flight characteristics, I'm interested to find out more info.

I'll let you know what they say when I hear back from them.

Thanks for that I would like to hear what you learn about the Ultimate.

I heard back from Patrick at precision Cut Kits / Solo Props. He's sending some more information with respect to the accessories that are available for the kit. here's what I have so far. Will post additional information as it becomes available.

From Patrick @ PCK

Rob,
Yes all the Pro-Line Aerobatic was called Ohio R/C. I am not sure of anything changed or modified the original prints look like they are like they were designed. Enclosed is a old ad picture and some specs on the #201. I haven’t finished going through all of the Pro-Line items. Some things are no longer available due to the company that had produce the parts has gone out of business, mainly tail wheels. I can send you a list of what I have for the #201 with current prices if you would like.
Sincerely,

Patrick Wallace
