Scale Experimental Aircraft Models 80" Velocity XL

So this kit got set aside for a while as I got into high power rocketry. I eventually decided that I needed to finish this thing, so here's a shot of it, ready to fly. I figured I would attempt to fly it before putting much effort into a trim scheme. I had it at the field once, but when I...

Are you going to register with the FAA? Cast Your Vote!

Your snarky, blase responses tell a different story. You don't care at all becuse it doesn't affect you directly.

Are you going to register with the FAA? Cast Your Vote!

And now the DC SFRA is included too. This loss of freedom didn't happen in the past - it's happening now. Perhaps you would care about a loss of freedom if it actually impacted you.

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

There are severe penalties for pointing a laser at an aircraft. Severe. Yet, people still do it with alarming regularity.

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

There is no such rule. Safety code 2(f) simply states that your name and address or AMA number be attached to the inside or the exterior of the aircraft.

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

Hey Bart, just imagine some jackwagon from the FSDO stopping by your field and determining in his opinion that you are flying in a reckless manner. You're an ATP holder, so you should know better, so he's going after your certificate now. Fun times ahead.

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

That is correct. The FAA doesn't consider them aircraft. They are considered "vehicles".

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

The AMA is out of their league. Strange as it sounds, the ACLU is who the AMA needs to be getting in touch with.

FAA Announces their rules for radio controlled aircraft

It still really hasn't sunk in yet for me. I have to register with the federal government to fly a foamy in my back yard. So stupid it hurts.

Scale Experimental Aircraft Models 80" Velocity XL

The cowl is fitted with some self-tapping screws going into the side of the firewall. The kit comes with an air scoop for additional cooling on the cylinder head of a 1.20 glow engine. Normally it would sit on the lower left side of the cowl to be closer to the cylinder, but since I'm going...
