Boy do I love visual progress like this! You'd save another 4lbs if you didn't use the cannisters. That would be easy to omit last minute though.
I've always enjoyed seeing your wood working skills, whenever I imagine a beautiful wood joint - it looks like your work in my head . . . not how I do it though ha ha!
Not installing canisters will save a lot weight, but it is hard to do for several reasons. One, the amount I paid for the set and just put them into the draw and then spend more money buying stock mufflers is hard to do. The system I bought is not that heavy the full system weight is 31.2oz. Then minus the stock mufflers weight it ends up not be that bad. I must say I do like the sound of canisters. But if I had to do it again stock mufflers would have been used.

We modeler's are our own worst enemy when it comes to sound. Lost some of the flying privilege's at the closest field to my house last year because a loud plane and poor judgement. Put the cans in!

Working on the motor mount and motor box. Trying to see what to change and see if I can save some weight.

I hate mufflers. Canisters only on my planes. I’ve got a few videos of Antonio Desouza tossing my ‘canister heavy’ planes around like a rag doll.

I didn’t think canisters were that much of a weight increase, my planes rocket straight up as far as I want when I hit the throttle.

I was doing a slow knife edge flyby with my 3W powered/canistered Yak a couple of years ago and someone asked me if my plane was electric powered. That’s how a plane should sound. I hate mufflers.

I agree with you about 5 years ago I started installing canister mufflers on all my planes. Just like with this plane I got into a bit of a weight problem, but decided to add the canisters anyway and try to remove the weight in other areas as much as possible.

Well just plotting along, decide to cover the rudder and the two elevators, while contemplating the rest of the build.

Ok this was a lot of work and a big change for me the firewall has been completely rebuilt. It was originally 22mm thick and now it is just under 12 mm thick. Removed 12oz of weight. Split the old firewall blown the middle and removed just over 5mm from either side. Then put the 2 halves back together and vacuum bagged the firewall. The picture shows the end result.

Have question for @TonyHallo looking and following your builds you seam to be using something different for the seal around the plastic bag. I am using this tack seal from the Fibreglass supply companies, difficult to use gets stiff and old quickly. Interested to know what you use.

I use cheap door and window caulking to seal my bags. Plastic drop cloths for the bag material. A roll of tape and a tube of caulking are about the same piece. Never used the tape but I am considering using it for vacuum bagging the Cherokee fuselage. Watched a video recently where a man used a butyl tape from Home Depot. I said it worked but not as well as original.

This is the largest bag I've done to date using drop cloth and caulking, 96" one piece Cessna wing, 3/32" sheeting, polyurethane glue. I believe I use a glue called ProBond from Emler's as it seemed to take a bit longer to foam. This was some 18 years ago.
