The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

1C is charging at the same rate as the batteries capacity. So, 1C for a 2200mah battery is 2.2 amps, or 5 amps on a 5000mah battery and so forth.

The problem all boils down to two words in your first sentence, "aluminum" and "pressure". First off you never know what the Chinese are going to throw in the mix of an alloy. I have a friend that ran a Federal Mogul brake rotor foundry in St. Louis. He spent a lot of time in China at other...

I've been making some slow progress on the new gear for my Hangar 9 Extra. I drilled all the holes in it the other night, and today I painted it black. I'll probably put it on tomorrow. You can see how bent the old ones were, since the new ones are only 2" narrower than the originals were...

Peak Models 32% Extra 330 SC

I can put up with a lot from an airplane distributor, as shown by my Hangar 9 Extra, but the wrong color scheme would be too much I'm afraid. But then again I'm getting really cranky in my old age.

:lol2: Boy isn't that the truth. The Snowflakes that are being pumped out of Colleges now days aren't even close to being ready for the real world. I have to go, all these Micro Aggressions make me want to head to a Safe Space and color in some coloring books. :LOL_gif:

Years ago we used Alumaprep and Alodine and DP40 Epoxy to get aluminum ready for paint. Now days on something small I use some really high tech stuff....... a spray can of SEM Self Etch Primer.:LOL_gif: After that just basecoat clearcoat.

I prefer the black gear on this model. Plus, for me, painting is easier.:)

    Real Flight 8 (RF8)... It's Here!!!

Sounds interesting. I know people were unhappy with Realflight X, so I'm glad to see they came out with this.

My new custom made TNT landing gear arrived the other day, so I actually hobbled down into the workshop last night and worked on my Hangar 9 Extra. Getting it from the family room into the workshop without damaging it, myself, or any of my other airplanes took some doing since it was in the far...

Yeah that's a bit portly. Not quite as heavy as the two 50cc Aeroworks airplanes I've had, but a pound heavier than my Pilot Edge. Of course I've got a 30+ pound 35% Hangar 9 Extra :oblong:.

I had a little therapy in the workshop tonight. Much better than sitting in a chair watching TV. ;)

Thanks for the good thoughts guys! It's back to work tomorrow ready or not, self employed you know. At least I don't have to wear that @#$&! wrap on my thigh anymore so I can get out of the house. My thigh feels like someone took a bat to it, but I can put up with that if it means I can get out...

Our club had it's picnic today, but unfortunately I was not able to attend. I had some outpatient laser surgery done on one of my legs Friday and I have to keep it wrapped up during the day until tomorrow. I could have gone today, but keeping the leg wrapped up while walking around has proven to...

It turns out the bearing in the torque tube for the tail rotor instead of being half way back in the tube, had slid all the way back to the tail rotor causing the drive shaft to flail around rubbing the tube and killing some gears in the tail rotor drive. Then a stupid move on my part after the...

Question? Which brand LiPo battery to buy?

I just saw it on their website yesterday. I didn't have a lot of time to look, but it sure looks interesting.

Question? Which brand LiPo battery to buy?

http://www.usastore.revolectrix.com/ I can very highly recommend their chargers, especially the PowerLab series. And if you add a "Bump Controller" to a PowerLab charger you get all kinds of neat features. The Bump Controller was developed by a guy in my club, it's a pretty cool add on.

Question? Which brand LiPo battery to buy?

I've got Gens Ace, Pulse, and Glacier 6S batteries that I run in both helicopters and EDF jets. I've had good luck with all of them and I charge them at 2c. I've had one Gens Ace, and one Pulse slightly puff up in EDF's, but they went back to normal. When you suck a 5300mah down to 25% in 3...
