Got this here engine. now what?

Rusty has a Skywolf with a DLE55RA. I haven't flown it (YET lol) but I saw Colton fly it at HOW and it looked like it was a blast. I understand the engine install with the 55RA was kind of a challenge though. Would be bananas with a 61. It's a great looking plane, looks to me like a cross...

    3D H9 1/3 Cap 232 - Blast from the past!!!

Mount looks great! That's perfect. I have the same setup on both my 35% planes.

35% pilot figure - where to buy

Would love a 40% Red Aero pilot to replace the motorcycle helmet pilot in one of my planes.

    GoPro mount?

As long as the covering is ironed down really good on a solid surface and cleaned with alcohol or wax & grease remover before you stick the mount down its not going anywhere! I do like the idea of a tether and will make one before I put the camera in the air again.

    GoPro mount?

Yea just saw your post. I really need to work on it because it's an awesome angle!

    GoPro mount?

I built a mount that bolts into the wingtip SFG holes on my 35% Extra. Facing the camera back towards the plane is a really cool angle. I still need to fine tune it, was getting bad vibration.

Be great on a 33% H9 Edge or Cap if you ran across one.

    3D H9 1/3 Cap 232 - Blast from the past!!!

Man that thing is gonna be crazy ballistic with that 120. Can't wait to see it get wrung out!

    3D CAP 232-ST design / build / prototype

I think the snap tendency of old caps was just due to high wing load. Sbach has a high stab also and has no snap tendencies. Might couple with rudder but that's what mixing is for. :-)

    3D CAP 232-ST design / build / prototype

Like the way you kept the stab high and ahead of the rudder. It's worth the trade off because thats is one of the things that make a Cap look so unique.

    3D H9 1/3 Cap 232 - Blast from the past!!!

Ah yea I see the pic, not much room left. Terry's suggestion will definitely work. That plane doesn't have a can tunnel but you can build something into that first bay behind the F1 former. I have cut "gills" in the bottom of the cowl and used small aluminum low pressure lips and it seems to...

    3D H9 1/3 Cap 232 - Blast from the past!!!

Definitely yes on the baffles, and I would cut a big half circle at the bottom rear of the cowl for air exit. As far as carb clearance, I would try it first without a hole and see how she does.

We always just picked em up at the wing tips.

    3D CAP 232-ST design / build / prototype

True. But that's a pattern plane disguised as an Extra :-)

    3D H9 1/3 Cap 232 - Blast from the past!!!

Was my first "big plane" also. ZDZ80 for power. I put blind nuts in the wing roots and used 1/4-20 nylon bolts instead of the 4-40 in the wing tube. Did the hardwood dowel tapped 4-40 in the stab tube.

    3D CAP 232-ST design / build / prototype

The longer tail is just like a rock on a string. The weight out on the end lets it really whip around.

    3D CAP 232-ST design / build / prototype

For what it's worth I don't think stretching the tail will adversely affect tumbling if the flippers have the throw. Look at the 3DHS Extra, the Slick, or the EF Extras, Edges, etc. All excel at tumbling maneuvers even with a stretched out fuse.
