Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The trim tab on the elevator has poor geometry. A pulley is attached to the bottom of the elevator, as the elevator moves the pulley swings an arc which pulls the cable tight, the trim servo is in a sliding tray and the swing maintains tension. Additionally both cables are in the same pulley...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

I gave the interior a coat of Rustoleum Stone Gray before continuing with the fabric. I plan to leave the fabric on the windows and door until the painting is complete that way I only need to mask off the windshield area. I decided to relocate some of the radio components while doing the...

    What beer ya drinking tonight?

That's making my mouth water. Out to dinner with the family last night, I had a number 20.

    Hitec HS-5955TG

I would get a new HV servo, I have found the 5955 start to buzz above 5 1/2 volts, I questioned the 6 volt rating.

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

Finished the carriage lock. Top photo is the free position and the bottom is locked. I used a DuBro 6-32 heavy duty rod end for the connection to the cam knob. The 6-32 end has a 4-40 size hole in the ball? Works great. Still to get a longer bolt for the thread dial and make a 1/2" spacer...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

I only put the compound on when necessary, my quick change tool post normally resting on a solid mounting post. What lathe do you have? It's a Vevor, correct? They seem to be priced reasonable without many options, I suspect most who buy convert it to CNC so why pay for options that will be...

Prototype definition: "a first, typical or preliminary model of something, especially a machine, from which other forms are developed or copied" Developed is the key word here.

Scale Bud Nosen 1/4 Scale Cub?

The fin and stab area are a PITA for sure.

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

Work more on the cross slide interlock today. Built a bracket to support the bell crank, made the bell crank and interconnecting link. Just need to connect the bell crank to the cam lock and it will be functional. I decided that I want to move the cam lock handle to the 45 degree position...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

I wanted to put the DRO on the tail stock side but it would have limited the tail stock travel to the work and access to the carriage lock. It fits under the 4" three jaw chuck without a problem as long as the jaws are not sticking out too far. I really need to be careful when the 6" four jaw...

The stab and fin are a pain in the asre for sure.

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

I need to make the linkage and bell crank to connect to the cam operated carriage lock, the cam lock took another day and half to sort out. It is in the free position on the top photo and locked on the bottom photo. You really need the carriage lock on these small lathes as the there no mass...

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

I spent the better part of today making this arm for the carriage lock interlock. The top photo allows longitudinal feed while the second photo it is blocked. It is very robust, don't believe it will bend in use.

That's great news. I would worry about the Pam and epoxy resins mixing but if it works for you then that all that matters.

    Mini lathe (and mill) discussion.

Been doing some work on my lathe. Made an interlock device to prevent the cross feed and longitudinal feeds from engaging together, decided I needed one for the carriage lock and longitudinal feed. It is still a work in process. Below the cross feed is engaged and the plunger is extended...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

The mold has 10 coats of Partall #2 wax on it. I never tried relying on the wax alone and have always used PVA. When the part comes out of the mold the PVA normally comes with it. I have used Pam for release agent for Ultracal 30, don't believe I would use it for resin though. Put a drop of...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

The Super Cub has fuel tank covers, I decided to hide the flap and aileron servos under the covers.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Tell me which arm did you shorten? Top or bottom? I went back and looked at the Super Cub photos and I had to shorten the bottom horn. The front side is going to the bottom of the aileron, if you zoom in you can see it is moved in one hole on the horn. I do remember the cables remained...
