The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

There just straws glued to a piece of liteply with Goop and slid over the needles. The liteply is screwed to the side of the engine box so it's removable. There's holes in the cowl so it's super easy to tune.

Last night I reassembled the DA50 carb and reinstalled everything in Miss Moana. It will probably have to wait until Saturday to get a test run.

    Help! The difference between a DA85 and a DA100L.

In my experience the 120 is definitely smoother and has awesome power.

I gave it a soak in Berryman Carb cleaner today followed by a rinse and then blew it dry and blew though the ports with an airgun. I picked up a Walbro K20-WAT kit at the hardware store down the street (that place has everything!) which has a new needle in it. Hopefully the seat is okay. I'll re...

    Help! The difference between a DA85 and a DA100L.

The 100L is a pound heavier, but might make a little more power, maybe. But the 100L is certainly smoother running. I doubt you would see much, if any, power increase considering your adding a pound. I've flown a 107" Pilot Extra 330SC with a DA85 and an RE3 tuned pipe and it had plenty of power.

Cool The I'm going out flying thread 2017

Thanks! I realized yesterday that I hadn't taken any pictures of it at the field that were just the airplane and not a bunch of other stuff in the frame, so since it wouldn't run I took pictures.;)

After getting home from the field today I started off by repairing yesterday's carnage on my Mig 21. Everything is repaired and touched up. After that I pulled the DA50 off Miss Moana and took the carb apart. I don't see anything obvious, but I'll give it a good cleaning and rebuild it...

Yeah I was thinking an Eflite Apprentice. That way there's no tuning to do.

Very true, but nothing survived the crash of this one. Everything in it was destroyed.

The same guy that crashed the Sbach could have used the quad again today. This time he lost a Preceptor EDF jet. It was a damn nice airplane. A Preceptor is a wooden airframe with a 90mm fan on 10 to 12s.

I took Miss Moana to the field today, unfortunately I didn't get to fly it. The last time I had it out it flooded when trying to start it the first time. After changing the plug it ran absolutely beautifully. Today, while choking it for the first start, it started and ran way longer than...

There are just some people that can screw up an anvil with a tack hammer. There is a bean field on the west side of our field and he's been in it so much he should be paying the farmer rent.;) They had to send a drone to find his 35cc Sbach last weekend.

I took my Mig 21 out this morning. It was Deja Vu. I managed to remove the right main again catching some rough grass on the edge of the Geotex runway. This time I'm trying Gorilla glue.

We had a guy with a DLE120 that lasted one flight. To get it started they had to use a starter. It was horribly lean but they flew it anyway at full throttle the whole time. About 8 minutes in he went into an long upline and that was it, locked up. He said it had RedLine in it, but the fuel was...

Last weekend here it was in the 90's.:oblong: This weekend I'll need a sweatshirt in the morning at the field. My favorite time of year.:)

Every time I see guys at the field using a starter on a gas engine at the field I cringe. While the smaller gassers I can understand, we have guys that use them on 85cc' and 111's. These aren't guys that just physically can't flip one, they just can't tune one good enough that it will start. If...

Awesome Mike! Glad to hear it all worked out. I enjoyed following the build. As someone that's owned 3 DA 50's I agree. They're a bit out classed now a days on power, but as far as sheer reliability they are VERY hard to beat. I've had two dead sticks with DA 50's in the last 6 years. On one...
