The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Tonight I installed the thrust shim I made. I check the angle of it before I installed it by measuring it sitting on another Blazing Star mount I have.

I've also noticed the pull to the left in things like the amount of rudder it takes to do a right rudder knife edge as apposed to left, and the nose pulling to it's left when going from inverted to the third point in a four point roll. Holding a straight line is harder than it should be.

I made a shim to add 1 degree of right thrust to my Hangar 9 Extra 300X. I've already added 1 degree of down. I'm not sure 1 degree right will be enough, but it's all I could get out of the plastic shim I had. Hopefully this will help the pull to the left in a vertical line.

    I'm guessing the mufflers are for a 100, not a 120?

Cool The I'm going out flying thread 2017

I try and keep the radio gear and wiring as far away as I can. I think if you have good airflow through the fuselage in flight it's not an issue. However they can build heat during taxi back and radiate quite a bit after shutdown. I like to pull my hatch off as soon as possible after a flight on...

    GSN GIVE-A-WAY Hangar 9 35% Extra 300X Assembly

I've decided that I need to add some right thrust. In a vertical climb it takes a good deal of right rudder to maintain a straight line. The nose wanting to go left shows up at other times too like needing more rudder to do a right rudder knife edge and following the left thrust in every point...

    GSN GIVE-A-WAY Hangar 9 35% Extra 300X Assembly

My flying buddy Tony's is the same way. 10 minute flight and the 32 ounce tank is nearly half full.

    GSN GIVE-A-WAY Hangar 9 35% Extra 300X Assembly

Yes, I did do the vent line loop on this one. The fuel tank mount has tabs built into it for the vent line. On my Carf Extra I forgot to do it and it would loose a very small amount out the vent.

Cool The I'm going out flying thread 2017

It was a beautiful day here today. It was 65 this morning when I was loading up to go to the field. 65! In August! I think it made the mid 80's for the high. I flew the GSN Extra and had an awesome time. It's getting better all the time.

    GSN GIVE-A-WAY Hangar 9 35% Extra 300X Assembly

It turned out to be a gorgeous day here today, so I spent all morning and part of the afternoon at the field. With a little tweaking the DA120 is running better all the time. The surge is still there, but getting better as it breaks in. Leaning the low end helped, and narrowed the the spot in...

    Show Me the Biplanes!!!!

After I got home from a beautiful day at the flying field, I worked on the Samson plan. I'm starting to get the basic shapes of the formers to look like something.

The forecast for tomorrow is excellent so I'm taking the GSN Extra out. Hopefully I'll get the DA120 tuned to suit me and get some good flights in.:)

We've been lucky here, it's been much cooler than normal, less humid too. now you just wonder what the bill for that is going to be.
