    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

yea, but you're looking at the clean end of the table! I drug it out to the yard again to piss off the neighbors and work on the high end (not scared of prop bolts anymore)... it's getting about 5400 RPM on a 29x12x3.  I think I can live with that.  Should give mid to upper 60's in thrust...

    New Website

hmm... I got a page not found a couple of times, then the new site came up... looks nice.

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

I got my White Rose wheels and axles in today... shame to cover them up with wheel pants.  Excuse the messy table!

    Prop Bolt Torque

I've always gone 50 on a wood prop and 80 on carbon fiber.

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

I'm using a Biela 3-blade, which has a pretty thick hub also, so when I first installed the prop, I went from the standard 50mm to 55mm (McMaster is right here in town, they ship the same day, I receive the next).  I don't remember exactly how much thread is sticking out of the 55mm, about 1/2...

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

Soon... I may just stick with longer bolts in the hub.  If so, that will save me several weeks of shop time.  I'm waiting on some wheels/hubs from White Rose, and I still need to mount the receivers and batteries.  About 2 hours work at most.  We've got some other things to do this weekend, I'll...

What composite parts are you having to order?

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

One time, I flipped the prop probably a dozen times on choke before I realized that I had the ignition switch turned off.  I turned it on, took the choke off (fuel just poured out of the carb), flipped it twice and it started.  I would have been yanking the plugs out of my DA and waiting for...

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

If you're replacing broken parts and the repair allows for it, Gorilla Glue does a great job of filling little gaps and cracks.  Depending on the actual repair, you need to clamp the pieces together if possible, or the expanding glue can force things apart.  If you don't have the ability to...

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

By the way.... I was thinking about shooting a clearcoat on the plane before assembling it.  Then someone suggested that I just get an orbital buffer, use a good polishing pad and compound, and THEN put a coat of wax on it, once it's smooth and shiny enough to see yourself clearly in. It took...

    3D Rebuilding the Compy MX2.

Wow... I didn't know you had started the thread already... I better hurry up and finish mine!    I still have to mount the receivers and batteries, and I'm waiting on new wheels before mounting the wheel pants, but I think that's about it.  I did a quick CG yesterday to see where the...

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

I enlarged the photo in the PDF of the 157CS TS manual... it looks exactly like mine came to me... long needle screws and no springs.     OK.. maybe the original owner(s) didn't stiff me on the springs!  There, I said it.

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

Hmm.. that's exactly what mine looks like.  Maybe they don't need springs or the black plastic piece.  I added the springs and tuned again, it seems to be fine... I'll probably let that sleeping dog lie.

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

I have another question about the IIS ignition modules... after I turn the ignition on, the motor ALWAYS starts on the second flip.  Just a gentle flip and it's running.  Does the first flip past the magnets initialize the ignition, then the second pass fires the spark?  I really like the...

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

I (borrowed) some springs from an old Walbro laying around in the shop...problem solved.

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

I saw a photo of another motor for sale that has that black plastic that you're talking about... mine has the same screws coming out of that plastic piece, so I assume it probably had that piece at one point in its questionable life!  I'll check with Gerhard when he gets back to the shop and see...

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

nope, on mine, the needles go straight into the aluminum on the side of the carb. the shaft of the needle does reduce down quite a bit where the threads are, suggesting to me that maybe there were or should be springs to hold some tension, but there are none here.  I'll check around and see what...

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

Also.... the needle screws don't have springs on them to hold compression and keep them from turning... is this normal?  My Walbro's always have springs on them.

    I hate getting F'ed on a motor

I decided to start the motor and see if my problems were any worse than a couple of stripped bolts.  The standard prop bolts are 50mm, I installed a 60mm bolt in the stripped hole, and it torqued down fine.  The exhaust wasn't going to hurt anything if it blew out of the header connection, but I...
