    IMAC Build: Dalton Extra 300

Well, the cowl is 95% done. I drilled the holes for the remaining bolts for the lower half. After that, I took a ball driver to see where I needed to make holes for installing the lower bolts of the lower portion. I then installed the lower half and used a Sharpie to mark the locations for...

    IMAC Build: Dalton Extra 300

Yesterday morning, I started on the bolt locations for the lower part of the cowl this morning while batteries charged. However, when I went flying yesterday, I found that my DA 60 isn't drawing fuel so I got to mess with that. I figured out my choke butterfly wasn't closing all the way and...

IMAC JTEC/ Radiowave 3.1m competition series

Nice work guys! I may have to do a JTEC 3.1 Extra for my next build. With the fear of starting a brand war, has anyone compared it to a Dalton 300 MEL, Dalton Yak 54, or Carden 124 PRO?

I made some more progress on the cowl last night. I began by working on the right side and at the front. I drill a 1/8" pointed drill bit. Once I got through the fiberglass of the top cowl side, I switched to the drill bit for tapping a 6-32 bolt. I used this to drill through the fiberglass...

3D Bandsaw for Building RC Planes?

What about blades? Would I need to get a finer cutting blade (if they are available) or are you guys just using the blade that came with the saw?

3D Demystifying Vacuum Bagging of foam wings!!

I just watched a YouTube video and the guy was building the Hyperlite Slick. He used the $150 set up from ACP. Is that a pretty decent set up for someone that might build one kit/year or less?

I began making some tabs for the back side of the lower cowl. Each was measured to be 3/4" by 1". I used scroll saw to cut it out. I don't know how old this is because I got it from my grandfather so probably mid-60's. Still works great though! After I had the tabs cut, I mixed up some 30...

Cool, just wanted to make sure I was seeing it right. With mine, I actually ordered and second set of AAA balsa sheeting from Lone Star and then weighed everything trying to keep the wings light and even but I also reserved the lightest sheets for the wing tips.

Cam, how did you do the sheets for the wings? It looks like the last 8 inches are going perpendicular to the rest.

Looks like I will be picking some up instead of balsa filler.

    Large Smooth Pipe Diameter?

Dave, what is the diameter of the fat part of the Large Smooth Pipe? The OD is not listed on the website.

I made some progress on the cowl tonight. I began with the two pieces held together with tape and marked where the overlaps were. I then used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to remove small pieces of the lower piece. I had to do a little more cutting after the first cuts to get a good fit. I...

You know, roughly cutting out the surfaces and then going back through to clean them up sounds like a pretty good idea. The only issue is handling the wings. That one may just take a little more care and sanding afterwards or how do you guys handle it?

Cool, looking forward to it! I plan on using a small box cutter knife for the ailerons. I would use the band saw primarily for the counter balance on the rudder and maybe separating the stabs for the elevators and rudder.

Stuff for work go in the way tonight so I took care of a few odds and ends. One side of my turtle deck was slightly shorter than the other so I cut a piece of balsa to add to it. I'll trim it up some more and sand it down so that the sides match. After that, I trimmed and glued on the plate...

Nothing yet but I'm looking into my options. I'm going to see if I can get by with a 9" band saw or see if one of my dad's (yes he has multiple) is accessible in his workshop.

The SKIL saw in the background, is that what you used to cut out the control surfaces?

Tuned Pipe Header Length and Prop Choice

If I went with the 150L, I would seriously consider doing tuned pipes. The props I was thinking of running on it would Mejzlik or Falcon and 31x12 or 32x10 for a 2 blade or 28.5x12 or 29x12 for a 3 blade.

Tuned Pipe Header Length and Prop Choice

I'm making some progress on my Dalton 300 and still thinking about what engine/exhaust to run. I'm probably going to go with a DA 150L or GP 176 EVO on stock mufflers but I still have an interest in cans and tuned pipe set ups. I was looking at some information on different props and found...

I'm going to work on mounting the cowl next. I had some other things to work on last night for work so I didn't have much time. I did get the cowling out and tape it together.
