ZDZ USA Is Bringing ZDZ Brand Back to the US! Whoo Hoo!

Where I am, the highest octane you can get at the pump is 91. So if I needed 93 or above, I'd have to buy SEF or racing fuel.

I looked into pattern as well and I may get a pattern ship eventually. Unfortunately, I just don't have the time for running around to contests at this time.

ZDZ USA Is Bringing ZDZ Brand Back to the US! Whoo Hoo!

Well, here's another question related to high octane fuel sources. There is a small airfield in Hereford, TX where I work and I just looked up what services they have. Their fuel is self-serve. So does that mean they have a pump with a long hose attached and you just swipe plastic? Also, is...

ZDZ USA Is Bringing ZDZ Brand Back to the US! Whoo Hoo!

If avgas was hard to come by, what other fuels would work? What about SEF from VP or their other racing fuels assuming you could get them in 5 gallon containers?

ZDZ USA Is Bringing ZDZ Brand Back to the US! Whoo Hoo!

I've always been interested in trying a ZDZ. Now that there will be a reliable dealer in the USA, I might have to put a ZDZ 180 on my Dalton 300.

When I was gluing the root caps on the horizontal stabs, I marked and sanded down the top edge so that it was close to the shape of the airfoil but neglected to do the same on the bottom. So I am now working on getting the bottom to match. With it being lite ply, an 80 grit flapwheel sander...

    Glassing and Painting techniques

Does anyone set up something to function as a paint booth or do you just work in the shop?

Not too much to update. I had to get some things for work done last night and I'll probably have some more office work tonight. I did get the brass inserts for the tailwheel glued in last night. I also opened up the holes for that the wing bolts/anti-rotation pins go through in the fuse.

    3D Hinges for Removable Rudders?

Did you just glue them in or do you need to pin (I.E. drill through them at a 90 degree angle and secure with a dowel or other small round piece of wood) them as well?

Hey Cam, are you planning on using the bushings for the anti-rotation pins?

    3D Hinges for Removable Rudders?

Do the flat pin style hinges or the Robart point style hinges work better for a removable rudder?

Thanks! I'm hoping to be able to have it flying for next summer. Just going to continue slowly working on it and get it done. I don't really have any other projects to work on so I'm a lot more relaxed. It's a busy time of year and the summer is always crazy with a lot of travel for me but...

    IMAC Build: Dalton Extra 300

I didn't have time to get everything set up again so I just worked on odd jobs. One is a messed up part on the front of the motor box. This happened when I moved from central TX to west TX. I just cleaned it up, cut pieces close to what size was needed and glued them in. I plan on wrapping the...

Well it was another windy weekend and I had to work and go to a wedding. I did manage to get some work done on my 40%er. I was hoping to set the incidence for the wings, but I had to order a 3/16"x18" drill bit. I could find an 18" bit that was 1/4" or bigger but not the 3/16" that I needed for...

3D Gluing Secraft Studs Into Wing for Anti-Rotation/Retention

Well, I would prefer to have a stud that screws into the wing but the Dalton is set up differently. And that's not to say it's wrong, but I would rather use a metal stud in the wing root and use the Secraft nuts than the included plastic studs. I know people are using the plastic studs and...

3D Gluing Secraft Studs Into Wing for Anti-Rotation/Retention

I'm hopefully going to be setting the incidence on my wings for my Dalton Extra 300 this weekend or sometime soon. The kit came with plastic studs to be glued into the wings. I was thinking of replacing them with either the Secraft Wing Bolts/Nuts or using that system with a longer stud if I...

    IMAC Build: Dalton Extra 300

I've been working on shaping the leading edge of the left wing. For one of the 1/2" strips of LE material, I had some glue on the material. I believe my plan was to put that on the back side against the foam core and somehow things got turned around. So I've been working again the glue residue...

Well, the right wing is ready to go for setting the incidences. I used my 22" sanding bar with 220 grit sandpaper and just slowly worked the edge down. I broke the leading edge into 4 different sections and worked them differently to get a nice even taper to the wing tip.
