The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Just got back from the field and the 78" extra is still in its "new factory" condition:attaboy:. Maiden flight required minor R- aileron trim and minor U- elevator trim. I got another weight of the plane completely assembled and was concerned.....15 pounds 10 ounces! ouch! The first landing...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Finally getting a Maiden in Christmas eve! :woohoo!: The Pilot 78" 330sc turned out to be a "chunky monkey" as a 12s set up at 15 pounds but the power that these Turnigy SK3 motors have will get the job done. 6374 192kv and 20x10 (23x8 coming for it soon). The 149kv is better suited to a large...

The voltage drop on the packs was excessive using just the adaptor and a single XT60 to the speed control. Wiring two XT60 connectors in series with 8awg wire really improved the voltage from dropping excessively causing the speed control to shut down. The 149kv motor further aided in lowering...

With the 6374 192kv - 91 amps. With the 6374 149kv - 79 amps. The 149kv motor seems to do better but does not have the top end the 192 has. It also has a couple of more minutes running time.

Played around with the 12s set up the last couple of evenings on the extra. Being this my first 12s...I have found that wire size and length are critical to optimizing performance. I installed dual XT60 connectors to run the 6S packs in series instead of the adaptor I had previously made. This...

I think things are "cyclic" on what goes in and through our shops for the most part. Big gas planes are still tops for me but cant afford it right now. A couple of electrics will do my bidding for now. Do have a YS DZ 70 practically new in box. Sold all of my other YS engines. David...I hope you...

Got the motor box and mount done last night. Only bolts I could find 3.5" long at the hardware store were 10-24 slot machine screws. They worked ok though. But hex caps have me spoiled. Did a little more testing of the power set up and it appears the 20x10 is just a wee bit much prop for the...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

The whole darn year has been that way for me Tanner :face-palm:. I have since sold all of my gassers and hope to redeem myself with an electric 78 incher but I think time has finally caught up with me.

Your welcome. Turnigy also has a new chemistry lipo called Graphene. Compared cost to my existing 6S pack is 75.00 vs 55.00. Going to try some on this new bird. I hear they are supposed to out perform thunder power and take a fast charge like no other battery. Thanks for the compliment...

@Snoopy1 I did get a wattmeter test done on the 20x10 and motor......Pulled 96.5 amps @2986 watts. Seriously strong thrust! I have seen vids of a guy using this motor in a 83" EF MXS and EF V2 78" Extra. 12S- 3700 6s 40c in series. 23x8 Xoar wood. Making 4000 watts power.

I chose Turnigy Power systems for everything from HK except the prop (Falcon 20x10 carbon electric 70$). Turnigy SK3 6374 192kv motor will produce up to 4000 watts but rated for 80 amps @ 48 volts and 3000 watts. $75.00 Turnigy Aerostar 150amp opto ESC. $110.00 Two Turnigy 6S 3300mah Nano...

Well I did get the motor stand off made and installed the 6374 SK3 out runner. Looks like it will produce about 3 Kilo watts with the Falcon 20x10. Hoping to have the plane around 12.5 pounds when completed.
