Discussion Flying Fields, How Big is Enough?

At one field we cut 200'X1000', the second field is 200'x 500', both are way too much. It takes me 2 hours nonstop on a 54" mower pulling a 48" drag behind deck to cut the 1000' long field only, then add the pit area. The field were I learned to fly many years ago was 370'x80', still only used...

The rudder to turtle deck is one area that I don't look forward to.

Spent the last couple of days been studying AN665 terminal tie rod ends and the lift strut fittings for the wing struts. Considered ordering flying wires from http://www.flying-wires.ch/flying-wires/index.html, these are some nice wires and fittings. Got to thinking about the DuBro rod ends...

It was nine days since I last cut the grass due to rain, spent good part of the day tending to the grass, two passes. Did manage to get the joiner tubes fit onto the stab and elevator. Before the tubes are glued in place I want to have the holes drilled for the attachment bolting. Need to...

The plans show a pull-pull arrangement housed in the rudder, I will go with that arrangement. Brought a 1/3 scale Nicopress tool from Balsa USA at Toledo this year, had used a saltwater crimping tool previously, I think the only difference is the copper couplings. Pecking away at the...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

I like to mount the cowl square to the fuselage, matter a fact I normally start by mounting the cowl to the firewall before starting to build the fuselage, what is your reasoning for having the engine in hand? Maybe I'm missing something? I can remember years ago I built an Ace 33% Extra 230...

When you put together an ARF, the cowl is already mounted and you fit the engine to the cowl, why not the same here? I agree you will hit the rudder post a couple of times. On my builds with flat tail surfaces I always make the rudder and tail removable.

The two halves want to spring apart, the tape hold them together.

The stabilizer halves are jointed with 1/2" aluminum tubes as seen in the drawing. I'm building the Stabilizer over a 1/8" lite ply spine as the ailerons were built. To get the aluminum tubes onto the edges, a 1/8" lite ply shim was taped between the spruce 3/16" spruce stock, this was chucked...

    DA120 running rich?

Sounds like an oil war is brewing!!!! To be honest I've used everything under the sun and never had a problem with any engine, my string line trimmer is 24 years old and just rebuild the carb two years ago, pump gas. It gets same fuel as the planes.

Painted same color as the surrounding area, pretty sure I'm going with the standard yellow/orange Champ scheme.

I sure hope it turns out nice!!!! About ready to start building the tail parts, I have 25 family and friends visiting tomorrow for an Easter Saturday diner, Ham, Lamb, Kolbasi and Miller Lite, don't expect to do much tomorrow other than cook and take care of the honey do list. Here's the door...

The skin was glued on with Gorilla glue, it sticks to everything! It's not perfect just like the real one, the alloy 3003 bends very easy. You can see the 1/8" lite ply added the firewall as well.

Got to use the drum sander again on this build, put the radius in the door window opening and the aluminum for the door skin. The aluminum provides a 1/8" flange for the window. Don't use it often but it is great for radius work. Was a little worried about the .012 thick aluminum sheet but it...

There are three tubes that the stabilizer and elevator slide onto. The front tube is glued/bolted to wood platform, the stabilizer rear tube is supported by "v" shaped aluminum sheets that are screwed to the rudder post, and the elevator tube floats and is attached to the elevator halves. My...

Yes I am quite happy the way they turned out. Decided to put the wings on tonight after the family left from Wednesday Hallo Family Fun Night, made 1 1/4" thick center cut bone in pork chops on the grille, brined for 5 hours before hand, baked potatoes and green beans, salad, and Miller Lites...
