Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Wasn't happy with the cabin roof so it was cut apart and re-glued. This time package tape was used for release rather than wax paper, it seemed to work out better. The wax paper kept tearing.

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

A 5/8" round bad was cut to length and drilled and tapped for 4-40 screw to hold the short piece of 1/4" tube in place while silver soldering, this kept everything in proper alignment. Two magnets were used to hold the tube in place while the 1/4" tube was silver soldered to the 5/8" tube, then...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

There was an old hand wheel off the mill-drill that looks to be the right diameter so a bender is in the future. A fixture was made to hold the 1/4" tube for the main strut in the lathe, end mills were used to put both fish mouth cuts, the fit was perfect.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Will a 1/2" blade fit? My saw is 1/2" and it cuts straight on steel.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Well that is a shame, it will take a lot of work to make the parts with a saw and file. I have to make similar parts for the Champ and not looking forward to it. Still working on the landing gear struts.

The I'm NOT going out flying thread.

"Some club members are starting to worry that they will continually renew the TFR because of the border activity as of late, which potentially means our club is shut down indefinitely... Sounds like you need the wall or whatever you like to call it.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

What are you doing for the fittings? These were purchased some time ago for the Nelitz Cub on the Universe. These should be installed before jointing the tubes together for the landing gear and struts. You can see the return address if interested?

Yes the tube OD is the stated size, not like pipe. The 1/2" tube was .493" , didn't measure the 3/8" yet, it will be very close to .375". Need to bend around 1 1/2" radius

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

3/4 of tubing arrived yesterday from Georgia, the last piece of 5/8" tube is due on Tuesday from California. The 1/2" tubes are cut to length and one of the lower forks is made and pinned to 1/2" tube. The upper trunnion will get silver solder to the outer 5/8" tube, it is drilled and tapped...

    Scale JTEC 1/3 Scale Taylorcraft

I love wheel pants, a plane looks naked without them unless it is a Cub. The do need rework every so often however. That's what winter is for? Nice louvers on the cowl.

The Valach and Roto 85 are not much different in price, maybe $200, the Kolms are much larger displacement. I have no idea what the actual cost is since you are responsible for the tariff tax. I seen the Roto 170 on Ebay for $2400 but in the fine print it stated you are responsible for the...

    Scale 35% Krill Extra 330SC....CUSTOM-ARF!!!

I don't know, it seemed much easier back in the day, we kept a gun filled with primer and you used it at will, 30 minutes it was ready to sand. Today with all the two part stuff seems like much more planning is required. Thankfully I got out of that line of work in 1974. My base coat...

Also looking at engine choices, thinking a Roto 85 FS. Would really like the 4 cylinder but don't think it will fit inside the cowl.

Today the spruce for the fuselage and stab along with the 4130 steel tubing for the landing gear was ordered from from Aircraft Spruce. There are 7 different sizes of spruce needed, hope none were missed. Started making parts for the landing gear.

Back in the 70's when I worked in my dad's garage we sanded the filler with 40 grit, coat of primer, then glazing putty, sand with 80 grit, sand with 220, then 320, paint. Of course the paint was acrylic lacquer or acrylic enamel. Today when when painting models I sand with 220 then primer...
