The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

When I was doing some setup on my helicopter today I found this, a crack in the Main Rotor Housing. When I checked further I found out it was also bent. Glad I found it now, it would have shaken it apart on spool up. I also couldn't resist putting the new canopy on to see how the colors...

It looks like the 550 will live to fight another day. I still have a couple of things to do and then run through the FBL programing to make sure everything is still good then it's ready. I've got a new canopy, but it's not going on till after the test flights. My workbench looks like it blew up!

Update on USPS fine tracking system. I just went out to my mailbox in Illinois and picked up some helicopter parts that are still in Boston according to the Post Office. Thankfully they do a better job of delivering most of the time then they do tracking.

My Trex 550 side frames finally showed up yesterday, and last night I had a little time so I started putting it back together. I could have it all back together for this weekend, but it's supposed to be pushing 100 so I'm in no hurry.

Don't be surprised if it shows up out of the blue. USPS is so bad at updating tracking it could have already made it to your local post office and you would never know. It happens to me all the time.

    3D Viper build log (maybe)

Terry, do you have any milled fiberglass you can test while your testing. We used to add it to everything for BVM jets years ago. I still use it all the time. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK312

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

We have a magical interference spot at our field that claims a lot of airplanes. Usually from the same group of guys. I like to fly in that area since those guys usually stay away from there. ;) Never had a glitch. I don't think I've ever had one since switching to 2.4. Of course those guys are...

Midwest Air Wing Big Bird Fly In

Yeah Mike that's an issue for me too. Our events are always on Saturdays. Most of the time I can't make them either. I'm still not sure I can make this one. At least not until the afternoon.

Airplane Cradles in the Shop, What works, what doesn't?

I think I'm going to steal @Pistolera 's design to build a painting stand. It looks like it will give plenty of working room. I learned back in the early 80's when I painted my first RC airplane (An Aeromaster) that setup is one of the most important keys to a good paint job. If your struggling...
