    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

I've thought a lot about this. You're right that it could help if a servo fails, but I'm not sure how feasible it will be. I'll keep ya posted. Thanks for all the awesome pics!!! I'm going to go with a sporty scheme. You'll see. No decisions made yet.

    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

Thanks Randy. I'm glad someone is still reading this boring Skymaster thread. I just read my first post and laughed when I read that I planned to be done in the Fall. Ha! Riiiiight.... I may someday retrofit some retracts. There's a guy on RCSB that did a great job fabricating his retracts...

    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

The roof of the cabin and the wing saddles are now completed, (saddles completed after this picture was taken). I was concerned about the slant angle of the roof. However, all the measurements are spot on. If it looks wrong when the wing is on there, I'll re-do it. I'm debating whether or...

    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

One significant flaw I'm seeing in this design is the lack of reinforcement in key areas, such as the landing gear plate and the former that holds the wing to the fuselage. For the latter, the kit from National Balsa makes it worse because there is a seam in the top of the fuse at this key...

You and me both! I will be so nervous when that day finally arrives.

    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

There's a guy over on RCSB that designed and built a set of retracts for this size 337. He has a YouTube video of it working and it's pretty dang impressive. I can get you a link to that video if you'd like.

    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

This weekend I found a little time, so I installed the front throttle and choke servos in addition to the new engine standoffs. I then went to work with the sanding drum and shaped out the windows a bit. Why I was putting that off, I don't know, but having them shaped really improves what...

    Discussion Airframe Vibration Prevention/Deadening

I used thick balsa triangle stock in every joint of the motor box and inside the canister box. I also used hardwood cross bracing zig-zagging the top of the fuselage from firewall into the tail just below the canopy hatch. This resolved the vibration issues for the most part.

    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

Three servos installed now: nose gear, rear throttle, and rear choke. All programmed into the 18sz. I'm waiting for some longer standoffs for the front engine and then I can finish the front engine installation. When that is done, I can install the front throttle and choke. Why use servos...

    Hostetler Cessna 336 Skymaster

It's been awhile since the weather has been cooperating for flying and it seemed a shame to waste it. Today, I cleaned up the garage/workshop a little bit and decided to try and fit the landing gear and engines to the airplane. I think I'd call it a successful, productive day. It poured down...

    Twisted Hobbys Owner's Thread!!

I have the Crack Lazer and like it. My 9 year old loves it! We do have issues with the control surfaces not centering well. It actually changes during flight. I believe the cheap HK servos may be the culprits. Can anyone recommend some affordable yet worthy replacements? I'm probably...

    The 3DRCForums -Discuss Anything Thread-

Thank you Bipenut I can tell you that for me, watching him go from playing with die cast metal planes in his stroller while I flew my planes to flying better than me has been an incredible journey. I love the little guy and hope that he sticks with this hobby. I think it's safe to say that...

Yeti Great to hang out with you and your family again this year, Dale! Glad that everyone got to get together after the event and hang out some more. Sorry I had to work, but it sounds like the kids had a good time. Hope to see you all again soon.

    Eugene, Oregon Monster Fest/3DBASH August 21st-23rd 2015!!

I admit it, I really bullied that plane out of him. I went to his wife and told her he had no more room in the garage, that he should sell it and buy her something nice... Then I made my son Oliver go over and say how sad he was that he didn't win it... It was brutal and I'm not proud of it...
