Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

Weather in Juneau has been miserable. So went to Oahu, Hawaii to the slopes of Makapuu!!! What a treat it was to fly on a slope with unlimited lift. The paragliders use this spot to launch from and zip down the coastline, rise up and ride the ridge behind to land back on the beach. Way cool...

My Futaba 18SZ you can use a % timer as well. On my 75"Edge I had a Telemetry Sensor that counted mAh used, so after a few flights you'd adjust the usage warning so you don't over draw your battery pack.

Hmmm wonder what went wrong with the circuit? That Open Tx is quite a neat concept.

Future RC is here...thrust vectored VTOL Star Wars TRI-JET

Outstanding!! What a neat project and to see it go nose up vertical looked like gravity didn't matter. Brilliant.

I agree with the 150 grit on a sanding bar. You can tape the area you don't want sanded with sacrificial blue masking tape and just be mindful wile sanding. Then you can switch to 220/400 for final sanding. I spent many years just using 220 and what a mistake that was. 150 FTW

Sure, Let me dig it up. As far as the control mechanism for the on/off you can get this: http://www.hansenhobbies.com/products/rcelkits/erskit/ I have a written schematic and a PCB schematic in progress. I'll PM you Unable to PM you, might be your conversation settings.

555 Timers are extremely popular. No reason to choose the LM model. I have a circuit drawn out for a fading beacon, landing lights, strobes, and navs using 555 ic timers. You can utilize a 4017 decade counter ic in conjunction with a 555 timer to made those sync's happen the way you want...

You may be able to buff the paint to get it shiny, or use a clear coat over it, I have also seen the covers painted to match a specific color scheme. Either way, good work!!!

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Got up at 7am to design a tailwheel ski that slips onto the stock tailwheel of most 60” planes. Pretty proud of myself that it turned out functional on the first attempt! I dipped the tip in some boiler water and formed it. Used carbon rod with CA for the rubber bands. It snowed 11” so far today….,

Video! Can't believe it's been so long since I've shot the footage. Finally had a couple breathers in life to finish it up. This footage really encapsulates the feeling of flying at my field. You get to see the terrain, shoot the approach from a either direction, and even get to see a wicked...

2022 Flight complete! Sure it maybe in the middle of a 6-16” snow forecast followed by 70mph winds within the next 24hrs… but hey!!! It’s complete! I went up, did a tumble, and ditched in the snow in front of me… nasty winds! Lol! Radio time stamp for the record lol

I always find those details can slow down a build. You can always run the wires and hot glue them in place for a later date. Strobes and navs always put a nice scale touch to a build. The nice thing about navs is you can run them all the time/independently and switch them off if you're not in...

That would be tricky to get to fit in the cowl and perfectly match the motor... darn. You could probably make a thick G10 shim under the prop hub... pretty true/flat and could give you and extra 1/8"

Scale Bud Nosen 1/4 Scale Cub?

I always thought the V-Brace was designed to eliminate side to side (roll) movement and was a seaplane add-on for many planes. . . I'll have to revisit the Cub design... maybe I'm just thinking of non-cub's. I'd think the wing struts are the main source of structural integrity for most planes -...

Just sounds stupid nose heavy to me. I still remember the H9 15cc Carbon Cub's first flight. I trusted the manual even through my gut was like.... that seems way to aft CG... Well I was right and it flew hyper sensitive and almost lost the plane. A big part of gliding is CG. Ideally every glider...

Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

What do you mean by a bear to fly? I've been learning a lot about glider setups lately and as @BalsaDust is saying - they are different. Once the CG is figured out you are constantly trimming/mixing/tuning to get the glider to fly hands off with no adverse effects from stick inputs eg: camber...
