The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Yes - Art Scholl modified the chipmunk to create what we all know and love as the "Super Chipmunk" and then modified it further to make the gear aft retractable. There is a really cool video on him talking about it.... I'll have to find it FOUND IT! Start at the 16min mark:

    110" TIMBER Assembly Thread

Got out flying yesterday and snagged some neat footage flying at my field. Actually had some impact ice with the fog on the leading edge too. Brr!

Just put a layer of finishing resin on my custom glass/Kevlar/carbon ridge runt canopy after digging out the foam, dissolving with acetone, and wiping clean. So far not too shabby! The blue Kevlar/carbon looks neat.

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% PA-28 Cherokee Build

Oh man, Not sure why I'm doing the canopy the way I'm doing it on my little ridge runt... I should have made a plug like you did. Instead I made an undersized foam canopy and am glassing over it... then I'll dig the foam out or maybe try acetone. Thanks for sharing!

Nice! I've been tinkering away on the otter and the ridge runt. Managed to make a styrofoam plug and a glass some carbon over it for a canopy. I think I'm going to make a thin layer of glass over that and add some finishing resin over it. Canvas is pretty tough stuff, so you'll need a machine...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Well @pawnshopmike I’m impressed so far. All received at 3.8 volts per cell. Quality looks good. RCBattery.com A couple 4S batteries for my new powered glider and a couple foamy batteries.

Other than trying to get my Ender3 printer calibrated correctly, I’ve been going a bit old school. Sorta… Downloaded plans for a ridge runt on outer one and made my own ribs to modify the airfoil to a MH32 using airfoil plotter. I’m getting there! Ill upload a picture whenever GSN will let...

    89" SkyWing Laser 260 V2 Assembly Thread

New video up: So far I will say this plane has a quicker roll rate and tumbles easier than the 91” ARS. It also lands a bit quicker and is not as stable post stall. I’ve been adding weight to the tail and it has been helping. My current rates and KE mixing are posted in the description.

My finger tips were in pain from an Allen wrench… then I remembered I got this dremel tool a a few months ago… and I’m started to like it a lot for small screws/little jobs. pressure sensitive. So when you push down it will go in the direction you have it set in. Or just push the button it...

Another big milestone. Finally figured out all my geometry and screwed down the float fittings. I’ll need to take them off to install the wheel collars. Only thing I’m not liking is my CG is a little close to the skeg… well and that empty (no battery, water rudder stuff and esc) the plane is 7.75#

Made some front float bumpers out of EVA craft foam and CA for the super otter. Cut with an knife, sanded 100, 220, 400. Think they turned out not too shabby!

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

My decal dilemma was solved by inquiring a quote from Callie Graphics. Guess what showed up! Callie Graphics nailed it! Super impressed. I asked for two logos and two pairs of separate N#’s; gave them some size restrictions, scale pics, and the model scale. I take pride in using my...

Been working on my super otter a bit as well. I finished making my designed and 3D printed strut covers that snap onto the wire gear, glued them in place, sanded, and painted a second time. Now I’m finishing the mounting blocks. I’ll be one happy camper once the float fitment process is done…

Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

Got a chance to fly in some better conditions with the Alula and Ahi. Was able to fly inverted a bit, did some rolls, and a few wing overs.

Scale 20cc DHC-2 "Beaver" Kit Build from Moustache Model Works

Been getting some more tinker time on this bird. Worked on the aileron horns. There was a discrepancy in the plans for too small aileron horn blocks. So if your going to use the supplied horns - be smarter than me and make sure the blocks are big enough for them. Decided to make some horns from...

New Product Dancing Wings 30cc Savage Bobber

How "savage" of you :LOL_gif: The bobber is a neat concept, but I can only imagine the rc version with a welded frame to be on the heavier side. I remember the Got Rocks experimental Super Cub with an open fuselage.
