The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

If you want really good texture on it they sell some that has sand in it. Will prolly work really well even with sweety hands.

The paint was supposed to do that. Called hammered silver. The texture actually does feel really nice too.

Posted original image again for reference. I think it looks awesome and with the white primer it helps lighten it up a bit. I found some of the black hammered metal look paint at walmart last night. Looking at the cap where they spray it to show the look though it didn't look very good. Looked...

Black in the hammered metal would look good. I will look tomorrow at lowes when I pick up some stain for another project.

That's what I'm leaning towards but wanted others opinions as well.

Throttle trim switch is failing on my taranis. Figure it's a good time to upgrade to the M9 Hall effects sensor gimbals and give it a fresh paint job as I never cared for the color that's on it. So the question is to go with make it stone or hammered metal look.

Originally when my buddy drew the wing drawings up in devwing (before I learned autocad) we put it up there to help carry the load since the main tube is further back in the wing than normal. Now I don't think it's really needed but still put it in any ways.

Nothing quite like the fun a good ole mojo 40 can provide.

Talking with some buddies we feel built up are stronger therefore they don't flex as much and will provide better authority in higher energy maneuvers. Adds a little more time to the build and is a little more complex but I think the end result with be worth it in both the performance and looks...

I did make some progress yesterday. All spars in one wing are glued up and in the process of laying up the other wing. Like I said taking my sweet time with this one but it will be worth it. By the end of this week the wing will see some sheeting. Currently though I have a huge pile of pallets...

Yup if it hadn't been for family drama this past Tuesday that kept me out of the shop the wings would almost be done and when it comes to covering well let's just say I love that stuff so it goes down quick and I have a pretty simple scheme in mind for it.

Finally starting on framing the wing. All dry fitted right now. Taking my sweet time as I need everything right so the CNC cut sheeting fits properly. @Snoopy1 i know lots have had trouble with wing rock on that plane but I can honestly say at that weight it shouldn't be a problem as it's a...

Ok so you have the 40 size one. For some reason I thought you had the 20cc version. Honestly at that weight I'm not sure you will be able to get rid of it. As a reference most 40 sized profiles come in around 4 to 4-1/2 pounds which keeps the wing loading way down. At the weight yours is at the...

Lol ok. I can't remember exactly what part he is in but I know there is a club close to him that has a bunch of 3D pilots.

the questions i have for you are this. how much does the plane weigh currently and how much wing area does it have?

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I think the problem with a square tube is when a twisting load is put on it. I don't think it will handle what the round tube will.

This was the original prototype I built. You can see the tube between the color break on the fuse. It's a sweet flying plane and being CNC cut will make it awesome. The guy doing the CNC work plans to sell kits of it. I'm not interested it trying to sell the stuff I just enjoy designing them and...
