@Snoopy1, I had the same concerns so I also made some changes. Firstly I added some 6.5mm sheet behind the front former of the the canopy to support the former and also to give something more for the dowels to bond into. It also provides more area for the transparency to glue and screw to. At the rear I added 9.5mm sheet for the same reason. I contoured it to match the fuselage and then tapered it to fit the canopy transparency onto. Down the sides I added 6.5 x 9.5 mm sheet and then sanded to the fuselage contour. This provided enough area all around to glue and screw the transparency on. I also added some spruce strips uderneath to strengthen the canopy floor, being careful to work around the structure within the fuselage. Hopefully the pictures give you a better sense (a picture being worth a thousand words, so four thousand in this case .

Let me know if it is not clear and I will try and clarify. I ended up with a strong canopy that I have never had an issue with.

Well thanks again I was thinking that I was over building again it is something I have to watch my sell. But yes I am going to come up with something completely new and hopefully light, but not as shown by them on the drawings that is just not doable. Hopefully something that is practical and suitable for the plane and the size of the canopy.

But yes I am going to come up with something completely new and hopefully light, but not as shown by them on the drawings that is just not doable. My mounting method is the same as the drawings, however I modified to keep the transparency on. I used clear silastic and servo screws (pre drill the holes in the transparency first) to keep it on and have never had a problem.

Got a start on the front and rear bulkhead for the canopy. Let them dry out for a day or two and then glue them all up.

Long day and very little or no progress. It’s day I should have stayed out of the workshop. Starting over on the sheeting of the rear deck. The canopy supports worked out good but that’s all. It’s Easter so I will take a couple of days off I think.

Yes you are correct going start over on the rear turtle deck. Also going to do it my way, sheet up the sides and lay 1/2 inch thick block of balsa across the top and then radius and blend it into the sheeting. Does 2 things much stronger and light, very little is left of the block once it is blended into the sheeting. Also when the plane is turned upside down to be worked on it can be supported in that area which is very handy when the plane gets to this size.

Sheeting redone and a picture of the front canopy bulkhead. At least I have something to glue the canopy to in the front the rear one will be done once the turtle is done.

Well it a little longer and some extra wood but is done straight and flat. Now all that needs to be done the end sanded and finished.
Now I can start on the canopy rear bulkhead match it to the rear turtle deck, and then build the canopy.

Excellent! Look's very good. Which way did you end up getting it done? Just curious as to what worked for you.

I sheeted the sides first and sheeted up at high as possible without snapping the sheeting then stopped. Sanded it flat and then put a block of balsa on top. Hollowed out the bottom and then shaped and sanded top to match the plane.
