I guess I should have led with that

Hahaha your fine, and thanks!!

Don't the % fool you, it has a 96" wingspan and a crap ton of drag!!

If it had full span ailerons and a bit bigger rudder, I think the 150 would be a great engine for it if you wanted to fly 3-D with it. I think a 120 will give it good scale power.

Going to a 120 engine from a 170 will save you 2 to 3 pounds. At 32 pounds a 120 will fly it with authority.

and you will probably enjoy it more because it will feel lighter on the wing and be able to land slower.

Also at a lighter weight, the rudder will have more authority.

Yep most def!! Really what I don't like about it with the 170 is the smallish (for that engine) rudder has problems overcoming the propwash. Even with 6 degrees of right thrust the rudder trim changes with every throttle change.

Smaller engine, less weight and less blow on the rudder also means I can take servos (I had 3) off of the rudder.

I am runnng a Mejzlik 22 x 12 3- blade carbon fiber prop on it (DA 60). Before this weekend I was considering trying a different prop as the setup just didn't seem to have the pull I was expecting...but this weekend totally changed my mind. The plane and new engine has about 10 flights on it now and this weekend it really pulled - unlimited vertical level pull so I am pretty pleased.

I've read some really good thing about Delro carbon props on another IMAC thread here and people were really talking them up as outperforming the Mejzlik's...but they seem impossible to find. Seems Volgelsang-Aeroscale may have them but they're not on their website so I plan to call them this coming week.

Oh...almost forgot to say (Spoiler Alert! This is a comment on how the plane flies...but of course as far as this thread is concerned it isn't even finished yet :tongue-new:)

The Pitts has about 10 flights on t now and now that I've worked all the bugs out of the pilot, and got some nose weight in it to change the CG..this plane flies like a dream! It totally suits my style to boot. Just flies IMAC style aerobatics like a dream...not like an Extra, but like a biplane should. It sounds awesome (K&S canister), flies great, looks stunning on the ground and in the air, and once the pilot is fine tuned they will make a great pair :joyous:
