Again the 35 is like 2 ounces more than the 30. It uses the same props in my experience, just it turns them at higher RPM....

The difference is 5.92 ounces according their website. If the difference were 2 ounces I would buy it for sure. I've heard this twice now.

I'm going to my LHS tomorrow and get them to weight the engine, ignition and exhaust for me. If it is truly 2.77lbs, I'm going to have to think hard. If it's closer to 2.5lbs, I think I'm sold.

Adding up the weight of the components from Tower I get a difference of 69 grams which is 2.43 ounces. I also don't believe that the DLE-30 ignition module is significantly lighter than the DLE-35 module. A test is better than a thousand opinions.

I totally agree. A test IS better than a thousand opinions.

I did add up the weights from Tower when I started this. Then I went to the DLE website. I tend to believe the original source before I believe a vendor. On the DLE website, they don't give a component weight breakdown like on the DLE30. They just state, 2.77 pounds total weight... So does that include the standoffs? I don't see the weight of any standoffs in the DLE30 breakdown. Maybe that is the difference.

I'm going to give DLE a call today along with calling my LHS.

Weight of ignition and standoffs should be the same between the two engines.
Here is weight of DLE 30 and muffler:

You guys are lifesavers. I called DLE (Hobbico) and posed the question the technician. He was in agreement, something is wrong with the numbers, but he is not sure what. The number in question is the weight of the engine itself. I suspect that 2.06 lbs is correct. The technician does too. That puts the total weight of the engine at 2.49lbs NOT 2.77lbs.

I'm going to my LHS tonight. I WILL LIKELY BE BUYING THE 35-RA!!!! But we will weight it first to confirm. Glad to finally be getting to an answer. I'll take a picture and post the weight.

Hobbico said when the get the correct info, they will correct the web page.

So it's basically a 4 oz difference?

By my claculations, 2.43oz difference. But they are trying to say the 35cc ignition is 1 ounce heavier than the 30cc ignition. I don't buy that. So I'm thinking it's less than 2oz difference.

I'm headed out of work now and dropping by my LHS on the way home. I'll let you know what I find.

My DLE35-RA engine alone (no exhaust or ignition) weighs 2lbs, 1.6oz.

So the engine alone is 0.4 oz heavier. I wish I had weighed the exhaust and ignition. I think they shaved an ounce off of the exhaust by shortening the exhaust tips and using plastic extension. My exhaust doesn't look like the exhast on the DLE website. The exhaust might weigh the same for both now. And I would imagine the ignition box weighs the same for both. I'm pretty sure they are within 2 ounces of each other.

As Enterprise pointed out, a test is better than a thousand opinions. Being an engineer, I should have weighed all of the pieces. Could still do that.
