78'' Extra

Sweet Joe,
gotta ask, what did you do to the planes belly? Are you getting ready for a tuned pipe or something?

Daniel makes that bird sing.

I was planning on dropping a pipe in it but i'm having second thoughts. I had some cooling issues early on so i cut the tunnel out since i figured i was going to put a pipe in there anyways. I really don't have the time and resources to pull my engine, put it on a test stand, and get the right header length so I'll probably end up going with a pro flow canister instead and cover up some of the belly.

Daniel was saying you get quite a nice power increase out of a properly setup pipe though. Maybe i'll drop a DA35 in it if it can swing a 21'' prop to a good RPM. They can probably provide me with the correct header length for their engine taking away the trial and error that would probably end in error.

That's a great plan Joe.
Just gotta keep the airframe alive long enough to get the DA35.

I wonder what size pipe is needed for a da35?

Surely not the RE2 that goes on the DA60?

Looks like someone did get some video of Daniel flying my Extra. It was amazing to see in person. This is the first time he's flown my plane

I got a flight in too but not nearly as exciting

Joe, that must have been a fun day! Watching these really makes me want to get my 78 done and in the air. The DA 35 should be here the end of April. I have vinyl on the way from Josh. Can't wait. I have my 60 all ready to go. After the snow melts that should keep me busy and happy til the 78 is ready. In the mean time I'll keep watching your great vids that are making me jealous. Keep it up.

That's exactly why I was willing to wait for the DA. Hoping that their reputation will take away so much of the guesswork. We'll see. I can't imagine the potential with even more power than yours has. It looks like plenty from the videos. That's due to superior flying skills I'm sure!

No i was looking at using a ES40G from EScomposite.

I'm not going to grab one right away since i've got something that's flying the plane fine for now. A DA with ES pipe will cost a pretty penny so i want to see what kind of power people get before i get one.

I'll let you know. I think that's the pipe I got with the plane! Should be sweet!

Yes, you have an ES30G pipe for it. You will need a header though, and it will not be interchangeable with a DLE, EME, etc. The DA-35 has a round exhaust port (duh, why don't all of them do that?) so that the header can be round as well. All the others have a rectangular exhaust, which means the header pipe has to be squished into the header flange. It will basically look like the DA-60 header setup.

Do you think you'd want to use the ES30 or ES40 for the DA 35?

I was thinking the ES40. It says it's for 35-40cc engines.

Well Gary, you're my "fabricator"/ helper/ gas mentor! Where should I start looking for a header?
