78'' Extra

I gotta ask a question about the photos of the da60 and header on the 91" extra below.

Whats the red stuff wrapped around the header for. I've seen a lot of guys wrap something around the headers in that area, is it to protect the throttle servo from the heat off the header?

It is a silicone tape called "Rescue Tape". The teflon tape that the DA supplied headers are wrapped with always leak. The Rescue tape is good for 500F, and has no adhesive, it chemically adheres to itself so it has a mylar separation tape that you peel off as you apply it. This allows the flex section to still flex, but it seals that area. It should be a permanent solution, but ask me around August how it is holding up!

Sweet, thanks for the info.

I wondered about that stuff.

I saw on Daniels extra that his header was one continuous piece of stainless tube with no join, is that a different header?

See pic #7, looks like one piece of pipe, with no join.

Got 4 flights today on my Extra. I'm getting more comfortable every flight and i had a great time with it today.

This size plane is really awesome, it was pretty windy today but it didn't bother it at all! I had the sky to myself because no one wanted to fly in the wind :)

How's the engine holding up?

Eh, it was running great today but on the last flight my idle became out of whack for some reason. I think i'm going to change to a walbro carb. That seems to be where my issues are coming from. I'm pretty sure there is some kind of air leak in the carb.

The plane itself is rockin though

I would also like to try a DA 35 with a pipe when it's released. It can swing a bigger prop than the other 35cc engines so it might be worth the extra money.
