78'' Extra

I'll definitely keep you updated on the pipe.

As far as using a Y-harness that would defeat the purpose of having the 2 RX leads. If the Y harness failed both switches are lost so i'm loosing the redundancy on that side.

Is there a smart fly system that would let me use more channels?

yes, there is, and I have one I'm not using... BUT, what Ryan was suggesting was to put the y harness and a servo on the same channel. Not both power leads into the y harness.

are you going to get the 78" MXS when it comes out?

That's the one I want. But I also want a 30-35cc gas plane, and I want it now of course! Been a long few weeks at work and I feel like I need to reward myself. Then when the MXS comes out someday I would likely sell the Extra and move all the gear over to the MXS I think.

stick 1 of the power leads into ch. 8 with a y harness, the other end of the Y going to your smoke pump. Then ch. 9 would be your other power lead. So you aren't depending on the Y harness for both power leads. And ch. 8 would still work perfectly fine for the smoke pump.

You and me both... just picked up a used gas 71" slick to beat on for a few months. I'll be sitting at my computer hitting the refresh button like a mad-man when they annouce the Gas 78" MXS is going to be released.

Sweet thanks! I'll probably give that a try. Smoke is going on my list but the pipe will be first.

Had some fun with the Extra today

I like it better without the SFGs. It's the first plane that i've preferred to fly without SFGs but i don't mind. Now i can actually use the wing bag :D

I'm really loving the plane. The engine is running great and has been really reliable after i figured out the issues with the carb. There were a few loose bolts causing it to leak which made it lean and it would want to quit at full throttle. After getting that tight and moving the timing a little it's been running great. I need to get a velocity stack to help with the spitting though.

Sweet flying Joe.
You were really hammering that airframe and motor, nice.

Takes some getting used to when listening to gas planes hammering around compared to electric.
Seems really loud by comparison.

Thanks guys. Everyone had finally left the field so it was just me and my buddy there around noon. I was dodging planes left and right early this morning so it was nice to own the runway for a bit while everyone is gone. Gotta say i'm loving the Extra but i'm thinking a good 50cc engine would be sick on this plane. It would be like 60'' electric power :p

Thats the way, bung on an eme55 pop on a 22x10 prop and let her rip!!!!!

One of the guys at my club has that setup on an 85" katana and gets about 6600rpm peak and about 1800rpm idle, drop muffle and no pipe.
