You should do a mini review on the engine... Would love to hear and see the install and your thoughts on it

Ahah you don't want to see my ghetto install with my wood standoffs and no spinner.

When i get my nice aluminum standoffs i'll take pics of my setup. My pipe is on the way to me so i should have that by the end of the week. I sent an email to order a Hatori #2301 return to center header. It has a 25mm drop which should work. I was told the the minimum distance between exhaust port flange and reflection baffle is 27'' with this setup. I'll need a 4 & 1/2'' extension to get the length i need.

Set up properly i should be getting over 24 pounds of thrust.

Keep up the great header research Hone1er!

I am still working on setting up my first gasser, OS GT33 in a 74" Edge, but my next plane is going to be the 78" Extra with the same engine and I would like to go with a header setup. It will probably be late this summer or in the fall before I am able to do that, so by then you will be the resident expert on 33's and headers. :D

Well at the moment i'm out of luck as far as the Hatori header goes. Emailed a few different places but no one has it.

Good news is the pipe arrived today!

Here is an entire thread basically about the the GT33 on a pipe.

I love my GT33, and I am going to maiden my second one this weekend on a Pilot-RC Yak 54. I am very interested in your results as this is the setup I want to use in the 78 MXS when it comes out.

One of the locals just put his 78 on a DLE-35 with that pipe. He used a old OS header and modified it. I hope to see it this weekend, but he is way more of a sport flyer.

I have pipes on my DA-60 and 120 and they come with some peakiness which can be tuned out, but do deliver raw power.

I think there is a OS 160 header you can use. Also Macs makes headers that fit the O.S. according to their site.

Hey guys,
I have a 78 waiting for power. I just went on the wait for a DA 35. This is my first gasser. I have an ES 40 (cf pipe) with a 30 available. I was going to get a gt33 originally but was attracted to the DA reliability and reputation. The backwards starting of the gt33 turned me off. Any feedback on the backwards starting. I have electric and no glow and don't want to get a starter setup. Gas up and go is my goal.
Great thread.
Thanks

I don't think any of the Macs products have the proper drop or wrap-around. You might be able to make it work by mounting the engine at an angle.

The Syssa/DLE 30 with rear exhaust have probably the easiest install using the Mac's header for an OS 140, hopefully the Hatori header is right.

As far as the motor starting backwards, this always used to be a problem with glow stuff. Normally the ignition timing made this impossible with gas motors but OS is different I guess. An electric starter would prevent it but I always hated using those because they ruined my spinners and were hard on the front bearings in the motor, so I always used to just flip the motors backwards to start them. Well-tuned motors could be started by simply snapping your fingers on the spinner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEFpEgBLenk (I think this was taken in 2006).
