78'' Extra

I'm using the provided standoffs which are giving me a little more than 1/4'' gap. I'm going to leave the spinner off for now though, i'll put it on if i need it for balance. If you get the engine to the recommended distance from the firewall the spinner gap ends up being quite big.

Hopefully i have it flying by next week.

Mine's pretty tight with the DLE 35. You sure you couldn't elongate the cowl holes to "cheat it " forward?

I had to get Patrick (gunsmith) to custom drill and cut a Tru-turn spinner to fit for mine. Sadly I won't fly mine much in the next few weeks as the airframe is for sale and I have the 15cc, PTE-72, Drastik programming, and another wing reinforcing project to wade through, and oh Bigfoot as well. I do love my projects and I have help on most of these. I think I might be clear of some of these once the 78s are back in stock, and I seem able to build EF planes quicker than some others for some reason.

I have a GT33 already broken in for Bigfoot. Also this will be flown at a lot of different sites and noise is a issue at some. Nothing is as quiet stock as the OS and the throttle response is plain stellar.

I have my own share of Hobby Services horror stories so I know your pain on the GTs.

You can always have a pull in mine in the mean time Matt! So is the Yak getting a reinforce or a for sale?

Darren, I shortened the engine box on your 78 by about an inch.

Of course that helped too. That inch compensated for the stock DLE standoffs perfectly! I had to move the old cowl back a bit for clearance.

Btw everyone, save a keystroke- drop an "r"! :)
Thanks, Daren

I used a Japanese saw to cut it off, then added the new firewall with epoxy, tri-stock, and servo screws each with a drop of Gorilla glue.

"Japanese saw"- pull saw?

Was that big honkin hole for one of the old engine carbs?

Yes, the Japanese pull saws are a great tool. That hole was for the carb on the Syssa 30, as well as the triangular hole pattern.
