Quick question for anyone running the VVRC 40cc twin. I'm just about ready to mount my engine and was wondering if you guys used the supplied blind nuts or through bolted it with some fender washers on the back of the firewall? I'm just a little leery of the blind nuts. Thanks!

I used the blind nuts. Loctite is your friend :)
Seriously though, loctite every metal to metal connection or it will vibrate loose. You could use a regular nut as well for added security. BTW the stock standoffs are a little long for this plane so you may have a larger spinner gap than desired. Craig at customstandoffs.com can make you whatever size you need so you can get the perfect gap.

You're going to love that combo.

Thanks Joe. I was leaning towards the through bolts but if it's holding up for you I will go forward. I know you fly the piss out of it! I am a liberal user of Loctite and I plan on getting some custom standoffs. I just wanna get her in the air this weekend. Let the spinner gap be what it may! Thanks for your help on my build so far so good everything is coming together nicely. I'm geeked. The last gasser I built was a 1/4 scale Steen Skybolt that I scratch built about 25 years ago. It was a handful to say the least. Pretty plane though. Sold it to an ex-NFL football player with more money than sense that made me an offer that I coundn't refuse and watched him pile it in about 3 weeks later. That hurt. :grumpy:

VVRC 40cc delivered. Wonder what airframe I can put in in. :D

Ryan has me convinced that the EF 78 is the way to go so here I am. What size standoffs do I need for a perfect fit? This will be my first Gas'r so please excuse the newbie questions.

Anyone know where I can get a deal on 5 x 7955TGs?

Loving the 60" EF (yellow) Laser right now.

I used the 7955's but just swithed to Savox. I had no problems with the 55's. I like the idea of going 7.2 volts so I don't have to run a regulator, that one of reasons I switched. I reseached a bunch of forums and people had good feed back. A guy of FG sells them for a good price. SAVOX 1270 .......... here's the spec's

Dimensions(mm): 40.3x20.2x37.2
Weight(g): 56
Speed(@6.0V sec/60): .14
Torque(@6.0V oz-in): 361.1
Speed(@7.4V sec/60): .11
Torque(@7.4V oz-in): 487.7
Gear: Titanium & Aluminum
Bearing: 2BB
Case: Aluminum
25 Tooth Spline

Servo City has the 7955's for $93.99

This thread's been dead for a few days. Thought I would wake it up. Nothing left now but a few details. All I lack is mounting the cowl and putting in a fuel dot. I bought a really nice Secraft but it is BIG. Looks like it's meant for 100cc planes and up. No good place to mount it. I have a Spot-On and an Extreme Flight fuel dots on the way. They should be here tomorrow or Saturday. I hope to maiden her this weekend. The Elevator servos have 1-3/4" Spot-On arms and 70mm (the stock are 60mm) Secraft turnbuckles. Otherwise there are no deviations from the factory setup. Azhar at Aztech Aeromodels has been extremely helpful. He's a great guy to do business with.

I have a few questions.

1.Do you guys bother with sealing the control surface gaps on these big planes?

2. I'm going to cut out the covering on the bay between the landing gear and the firewall and open the two round holes behind the gear for engine cooling like Hone1er did. Do I need to put a baffle in the pipe tunnel just aft of the two holes behind the gear? I am a little concerned about the covering over the pipe tunnel ballooning or blowing off.

3. Which prop would be better for break in?

This is my first gasser after a 25 year hiatus from the hobby. If you guys see any glaring errors please don't hesitate to flame me!!!

Setup is as follows:
1. Engine: 40cc VVRC twin
2. Props 20B and 21A Vess
3.Servos Savox 1270TGs all around.
4. Reciever: Spektrum Powersafe 9110
5. Aerotech IBEC
6. 2 each 1350 Thunder Power 25C 2S batteries
7. Engine oil Stihl HP Ultra 32:1

Thank you for all the info you guys put out here. It made this a fun build.

Hey Kevin glad it's coming together. Looks good. I used the 20B from the start. Also, i never had a problem with cooling but i did baffle my engine. I just have those cutouts i showed you and never had an issue with that. I used some cheap foam sheet to make my baffle. Just cut it out and CA it to the cowl. It seems flimsy but when you cut it into smaller pieces and glue it in place it's not moving. I sealed my hinge gaps and i definitely recommend it. Good luck with the maiden!

BTW, i think one of your mufflers is backwards.

Thanks Joe for all your help. I was wondering why they were offset... I will work that out. I wish I had a dollar for every time I've had those mufflers on and off during the build!
