78'' Extra

I sealed the wooden area on the fuse where the main landing gear mounts....... Epoxy watered down with denatured alchohol. Main gear is on and wheel pants are mocked up. I don't think I'm going to use the wood screw that comes with the kit; instead, I'm going to open the hole in the landing gear just a bit and install a blind nut in the wheel pant. It will take more time but I believe it will be more secure.

Doesn't really need that extra work. If anything just a little larger screw and a couple drops of Welders should be fine.

This mod is easy and worth doing on bigger planes.

That's a nice mod but in the 30 CC it seems a bit overkill. Heck, if you have the time and motivation go for it. Not any real weight penalty.

Ive done it on my 71 slick and 72sc......At $35 a pop for replacement shoes for these planes its worth it to me .....took less than an hour . What causes the pants to break/crack is the flexing and twisting. Ive spent way more trying to repair cracks before I started doing this so it saves time for me in the long run. If you are not on a rough surface it isnt needed .Just an idea that I thought I would throw out there.

I contemplated doing this on my new 92 edge, but the axles didn't reach across far enough.
I'll be doing this on all future planes that allow for it.
Great mod!

Oh its a great suggestion. . I've kicked and stepped on mine like an idiot. Bad sound, that soft crunch of fiberglass! Thanks.

I usually put on another layer of fiberglass on the edges of wheel opening. This gives them more strength in the areas they need it. Takes 20 minutes to cut the strips and glass them. Let them setup overnight. 30cc size wheel pants seem to be a high wear item on the grass we fly off of. On my 110 Yak I said screw it and left the spats off.

If it was necessary/desirable, you could probably get longer axles...

She's done and I can't wait to fly her. Just one small problem. I can't get it to start. Same as Hone1er. Will try again this evening with a 21" prop.
