78'' Extra

I had a AWESOME day with the Extra today! I cut the cowl out a little more and the temperature readings after flights went down 40 degrees. My engine didn't quit on me once so after a few flights i brought it in for some low n slow fun. This plane can slow down SOOO good. The harriers were just ridiculously easy and locked in and of course inverted is even more stable if that's possible. It floats like a foamy but it's got the right weight for snaps and high energy moves i like. I'm loving the plane! I have my timer set for 10 minutes but i just let it go off and keep going for another 2 or 3 minutes

I really want to do a smoke system but i'm using all the channels on my A9 already.

Sounds awesome! Maybe the 78" will handle the weight of a smoke system ok. I tried it on my 70" slick but didn't like the extra weight. I have a sweet smoke pump if you are interested ;)

Edit. Are you usisng the optima 9 rx? I had room for the smoke pump on mine...

Man, you're making me jealous now! Sounds great. Since we just got hammered with snow I guess it's still building, ski and indoor season here. Bite. Has servos and DA is still building my 35 so I'll have to wait. Keep the reports coming. Sounds like it flys like the RF extras (I pump the physics up to 120%).
Vid? Are you using the SFGs? Where are 9 channels going?

Yeah i'm using the SFGs. This thing is crazy floaty, i'm sure i could add a lot of weight without compromising performance.

This is how my 9 channels are.

1-aileron
2-elevator
3-throttle servo
4-rudder
5-aileron 2
6-elevator 2
7-IBEC
8&9-Wolverine switch(i got the one with 2 leads to the RX. I could've got it with 1 lead but i don't want a lot of current going through one servo wire.)

I got a video uploading right now. The engine sounds WAAAAY better but i might still be a little rich. Night and day difference from my first video. I'll post it soon as it's done uploading.

I see... on my slick I only have one elevator servo. That is how I was getting it to work.

Oooh yeah that makes sense. I should have realized that since i had a Slick before :p

I really like the removable stabs on this thing though. It makes it easier for me to transport than my Slick was even though this is much bigger.

That's what I'm talkin about! Nice work. I still can't get over your field and back drop, really beautiful. Nice rollers. I hope my 60 and this one will help me get over the hump with those. I'm close, my directional rollers still need work. You can certainly tell you enjoy this one alot! I was laughing when you were asked "are you gonna land it?" I was waiting for "I don't want to!" Then when you went around, rolled it down wind and did the roller approach you can tell you weren't ready to stop the fun yet. Great stuff. I can't wait. I think this airframe and the 60 are just what the doctor ordered for where I'm at.
Thanks for sharing.

If channels 8 and 9 are just for power, why not use a Y harness on them, and plug the power into one side, then you still have one or both channels for something else, like the smoke pump?

by the way, I really want to hear how you like the pipe compared to your current setup. Pricy things those escomposites pipes are! But possibly worth it too.
Still debating on pulling the trigger on one of these :D

I'll definitely keep you updated on the pipe.

As far as using a Y-harness that would defeat the purpose of having the 2 RX leads. If the Y harness failed both switches are lost so i'm loosing the redundancy on that side.

Is there a smart fly system that would let me use more channels?
