(This is not a bash of this plane. Read to the end...)
I have to admit: I didn't really fall in love with this plane for the first few flights. It felt heavy, sluggish and had some wing rock and wing drop tendencies. But since Aeroplus is a top brand, I figured there must be something wrong with my setup. Here's what's in mine:
8s 4000mAh
Motrolfly 4330 298Kv
Castle Creations ICE 100A (or is it 90A? Can't remember)
Leopard servos all around
I went through everything and here's what I found out:
1) This plane likes to fly slightly more tail heavy than a 3DHS plane (which is what I'm used to). 3DHS planes usually fly a bit nose heavy, but I found that the Aeroplus likes a neutral setup better.
2) I upgraded the firmware in the ESC, which gave me MUCH better punch and throttle response, made a HUGE difference.
3) I decreased the expo on all surfaces. Again, I found that this plane needs less expo than my other 3D planes.
4) I paid attention to the split elevator and made sure the endpoints were perfectly matched.
And, OMG, the plane went from "Meh!" to "WOW!"
Gone was the wing rock and wing drops. High energy maneuvers were not only possible, but quite spectacular. Hovers were locked-in and nice and rolling maneuvers (to the extent I can do them) were much smoother. This plane is now up there with my 3DHS 72" Extra in terms of planes that are guaranteed a ride to the field every day.
This Edge and I are going to have some good times together this summer! :beatingheart:
