A little more work on the big Mustang. The last couple of days between holidays and work has slowed me a bit. But still making progress. I have been mulling over in my head ways to secure the outer wing panels to the center section for flight. There are actually a couple of methods I've seen implemented. But nothing I really felt warm and fuzzy over. Then I remembered I saved some parts from a friend's crashed photo ops plane. Aluminum channel and bars that were used to secure his outer wing panels. I figured I could devise something that would work. After cleaning the parts and shortening the bars, I epoxied the channel sections between the main spars where the center and outer panels would join. Then laying a ply plate against the channel and a reinforcement shear web against that, everything was epoxied into position. 4mm holes then drilled through the main spars and bolts threaded into the aluminum channels now sandwiched between the spars. The bolts will tighten down on the aluminum bar that slides into the channel sections of each center wing end and the corresponding wing panel. Since now real side load will be pulling on the outer wing panels, the slip on sections will insure plenty of support to keep everything tied together. I really like this.

I also got one half of the aft wing bolt block supports cut and epoxied in place. The area consists of boxing the area with lite ply, then a balsa block inserted inside and finished off with a lite ply plate.

Its no wonder this plane is a beast. The construction is quite time consuming.

Tomorrow I will finish the aft wing bolt block for the opposite wing half. I'm pretty close to sheeting the bottom of the wing. Course, I'm waiting on sheeting to arrive from Balsa USA. So I may not finish the sheeting for a few days. I still have to decide on my trim tab construction. Still not sure what I want to do yet.

Yet, no doubt I'll be working on the DS Stang this weekend. So more progress will be made.

More later everyone.

Those joiners look like Byron wing joiners. A lot of heavy iron was flying around in the sky on those joiners back in the day. I see that Sig still offers them as well https://sigmfg.com/collections/hardware/products/sig-giant-scale-aluminum-wing-joiner

That looks sturdy three tubes and a bar that is never coming off. What type of glue are you using that is black.

Well I'll be! Tony, that is exactly what the joiners are. I had no idea. See? We all still learn schtuff! Lol

Snopps... the black glue is IC2000. It is an extra strength ca especially designed for rubber tires for rc cars and composite materials. Highly recommended for carbon fiber and cardboard phenolic tube. Bought extra when I built the Pitts a few years back. You may remember that build. I used it on the servo lead tubes and wing tube sleeves to insure they never move or vibrate loose. Really good stuff.

Hi would like to ask a question. This is concerning the 150 cc Kolm engine. I love engines and enjoy playing with them. Believe it or not got into the hobby at the time just to play with the engines.
Just entertaining a thought about the Kolm 150cc three cylinder. Can the engine be run on a plane without a cowl and no air ducting and flown. My concern is that the second and third cylinder may overheat behind the first cylinder.

I’m guessing Yes, but will defer to the experts.

One year...I can't believe it has been one year since I have visited my friends and updated the Behemoth Stang. I do have a few more photos fellas. Just give me a little time to get up to speed. I have been pretty sick for some time.... but I think I am over the worst of it. At least for now. I feel good enough to get back on the Monster P51. I also have to get that damn Velox built too. And all of this within the next couple of months. I have a Meister Scale 1/5 P-47 102" on the way. I plan on using my... yup, anyone that knows me, knows it will be a mighty dub, My 3w 85CS. Should do a good job on that plane don't ya'll think?

I will get back here soon fellas. I am sorry it has been so long. But sometimes life gets all bunched up and it takes time to iron out the wrinkles.

Thank you Mike. I am very sorry I have been away for so long. I really just have been so burnt out and then getting sick did not make anything easier. But I am determined to get this Mustang done this year. Hopefully before Sept. I have a Meister Scale P-47 on the way and would really love to get that started before winter.

You all are so awesome. Thank you for always being there and holding down the fort.
