Extreme Flight 104 Extra 300

I got four flights in today. The surging is still present but not as bad as yesterday. I'm flying a IMAC event this weekend so its going to have to do for now. Has anyone closed off the hole in the cowl in front of the carb? Would this possibly help?

If that plate helped I'd say spring for adding a nipple and then running a line back into the fuse. I'd be careful of closing that hole, could cause your carb to cook and lean out. You could try it real quick with some tape though. It's trial and error to see what works though. I had a plane that I blocked a hole in the cowl to run better and some that I've had to add a hole.

Had mentioned that but a simple nipple at 90 degrees facing down works too. I went as far as venting the hole in the plate to the inlet of the carb about 3mm from the choke plate. There is a part view of it in post #79. I run cans and had the very same issue when I first flew it. From 1.5 turns out on both needles I leaned the low just about an 8th turn. I also richened the high just a smidge from 1.5 out. When the engine broke in after about 7 gallons you could hear it hunting again slightly ( in video ).
I simply leaned the low needle just a tad more (less than 8th turn). Engine runs great.

@jhelber08 Here are the pics. Header lengths are as discussed in our conversation. @jymz this is what I did to vent the diaphragm cover.
